    White Collar Boxing London

    Alright All,

I'm new in here so bear with me, I've been reading through a lot of the posts on here and find them really helpful.

I myself am training for a white collar boxing match in a few weeks time and would like your opinions on white collar, I dont mind negative feedback either just be good to have a bit of debate.

I have been making a blog about the journey I have taken so far and it can be found by looking for white collar boxing blog in google, and it is called White Collar Boxing London

Cheers - I would add the url but new on here!

I don't know too much about it, but good luck in your bout.

I'll be in attendance for a night of WC prizefighting at the Ministry of Sound at the end of this month.

Always a good jolly up, plenty of banter and some tough lads pitting it against one another.

      A good night out.

Yeah Looking forward to it, my defence is suspect but working on it, and movement is way off but fingers crossed I can step it up in 4 weeks!

Hey man, I had a quick look at the blog. It's a good read, keep up the training and good luck on fight night!

I had a white collar bout last year, I just randomly saw an advert for it in The Metro and being a boxing fan, I thought it was fate somewhat, so thought I'd challenge myself and give it a go.

There are criticisms I can make however....As we got towards fight night, I couldn't help but feel like we were all "numbers", as it were, rather than individuals, our promoters seemed more worried about getting bums on seats than our welfare and any concerns we might have had...maybe this is my naievity showing, as the professional fight game could be a very similar situation.

The set up on fight night itself was somewhat of a shambles, we had nowhere to warm up (marble floored ballrooms as a dressing room, whilst very plush, hardly practical), the event ran an hour and a half behind schedule...I was on early, so luckily for me, I ended up on prime time....but have a heart for the guys fighting at 11pm, with his mates sitting around for hours on end.

Many fights were reduced in time as a result of this, mine was cut down from 3x3 min rounds to 3x1minute rounds....not that that mattered, but that's another story

The actually feeling of entering the ring to your own music, however, made it all worth it...the lights, smoke, music. It was amazing...just make sure that you work the crowd and take full advantage of it...I danced into the ring, bounced of the ropes, prayed in the corner and milked it to the nth degree, whilst so many others just walked in!

Have any of your fellow combatants boxed before? We had the odd unfair match up...with 3 month training camp novices matched up against guys who had had 5 fights...Considering these guys had sold £400 worth of tickets, imagine how pissed off he must have been and embarassed to have just been unfairly smashed in front of his friends in less than a round.

All, in all. The experience left me in two minds, I don't regret doing it. But having trained in different gyms, I just wish I had done it through a gym that properly prepares it's fighters rather than being rushed in and out the door. But the training was free and the actual night in the ring and watching the show, was great fun!

I wish you the best of luck and I hope it goes well for you!

Edit: There was also one hilarious guy who turned up at one session and ended up getting thrown out....he couldn't for the life of him understand why we were working on fitness. He just wanted to get in the ring and ****.
He had actually never heard of, nor considered the need for conditioning!
            He literally had no idea

take the first round easy, most white collar guys burn out in a round trying to be mike tyson. you should have an easy time of it once they burn out a bit.

Hey mate, anyone who gets in the ring deserves respect so you get plenty from me! Will check out your blog in a bit. You can get great training wherever you live in London. I used to live in Finchley and there's a great gym there (Chisora's haunt!) plus so many to choose from round east / central London.
Where is your fight being held? I love a bit of boxing, might come along and watch!
Seriously though, full respect and best of luck with your journey. Anyone who says otherwise is what the French would call a ****.
