Because if Canelo loses by getting dominated, that means his mistakes would've been exposed brightly for the world to see. And future opponents will take advantage of the 'blueprint' that was laid out for them.
He already is a new star. Besides that, if Mayweather dominates him, that's Mayweather. It's not like there are 10 guys in the sport who can re-create what Floyd does in the ring. There are some copycats who can emulate it, but they are just a cheap substitute. Unless he gets injured or flies off the mental handle, Alvarez is here to stay for a long while. He is only 22.

Guys that wouldn't normally beat him, would actually stand a chance by capitalizing on his mistakes. A guy like Trout, in a rematch, would beat him by a wide margin this time. I think a big reason Trout won against Cotto was simply because of what was exposed when Cotto fought Floyd. And with Canelo having never lost a fight before, who knows how well he'd bounce back?

He is here to stay, yeah. But here to stay as the star of boxing? I don't know about that if he loses in dominating fashion.

Trout beating Canelo in a rematch is far from a given. Alvarez may just as likely score the KO next time around. Hindsight is 20/20. The Cotto that fought Trout isn't the same Cotto from a few years back either. I agree that fighters, when they take their first loss, sometimes give away a blueprint on how to beat them. Kelly Pavlik immediately comes to mind. But that is not always the case.

Canelo's right. Since Floyd is already known as the top dog of the sport, Canelo is the only one of the two needed to prove himself. Floyd is even giving Canelo a few pounds over 147 to give him a break since we all know pound 4 pound Floyd destroys Canelo. Size is the only thing Canelo has on Floyd and nothing else.
