I'm pretty sure that jumping 2 weight classes and defeating a world champion holds more weight than beating a top 10 guy at your own weight. I know that Adrien Broner isn't exactly a favorite on these boards, but if you look at the wins in black and white, one is obviously more of an accomplishment than the other.Comment

I could really care less what odds say. Chad Dawson was -950 at the bookie, and got stretched out. All I see is a guy jumping from 135 to 147, notching out a victory against arguably the best fighter he's challenged thus far, and grabbing his third belt in as many classes at the age of 23.
I'd choose that over Matthew Macklin being knocked out by a guy his own size everyday of the week, considering that it's not every day that a boxer becomes a triple champion, especially one as young as Adrien Broner. The significance of his win is undeniably greater than Golovkin's.Last edited by doom_specialist; 07-05-2013, 05:27 AM.Comment

Both guys were expected to win. But Broner barely managed it and looked pretty ordinary. GGG went beyond the expectations by doing it in such style his stock went through the roof, Broner's? ... meh I wouldn't pay to see him that's for sure.Comment

I don't need to be updated on Golovkin. I like him, I like Kovalev, and I like the "Soviet boxing school"...Check his family history, he's part Korean if I'm not mistaken. What des his name have to do with his nationality? And where is there ANY proof GGG has any ties to the Russian Mafia? He's a part Asian from Kazakhstan fighting out of Germany fronted by a major US television network. Where do you guys get you imaginations?
There was another issue I wanted to underline: the issue of controlling the American boxing business. You don't want to find out how the Russians "operate", believe me...
(The ignorance is bliss, though)...Comment

He was given his 130 lb title against Vincent Rodriguez, he didnt win it!
He fought Antonio DeMarco, a good win but a limited guy to win 135 title
Fair play he moved two weight classes, but lets be real this isn't like Shane moving up to fight De La Hoya, or Duran against Leonard! He blatantly searched for the easiest mark at 140-147! A guy who he was the same size as if not slightly bigger than.. And flopped.
Do you think he would have been 15-1 on against Garcia, Matthysse, Alvarado or Rios? Not to mention more legit Welters like Bradley, Alexander, Brook, Maidana or Thurman!?
Like I said, he done well to move up, but there's a reason why sensible people aren't lauding him as the second coming of Robinson like some guys do, let alone Floyd!Comment
