I don't think Canelo has much of a chance, but if Floyd is smart, he will NOT make this a blowout. He needs to keep it at least somewhat close, as to make a rematch more interesting.

**** no! If he has a chance of outclassing Canelo, then he should do it. There's no reason for Floyd to make this fight as close as the first Castillo fight, Cotto fight, ect. Floyd can fight Martinez, Khan, Matthysse, and maybe Broner as his last four remaining fights.Comment

People are skeptical of Canelo making the CW healthy being that he had trouble years ago and NOT able to make the CW and barely making 152. Plus him ballooning to 172 in his last fight.
You may not know this but BEFORE the fight, Canelo, Oscar and Shaeffer all said that he can't go below 154 comfortably.
So now that he has no choice but to make 152, Canelo, Oscar and Shaeffer all have to change their tune ......Comment

Floyd staying along the ropes for 8 rounds while Canelo gasses himself out .....
I can see Canelo gassing out with his stamina issues but I think Floyd will use his legs more.Comment

Floyd is the best but he is still human. Typically a 170 pound man can hurt a 150 pound man with 1 punch at any point whether he is tired or not. Floyd don't hit hard and he clearly did have some issues with the weight in the Ortiz fight you can see it in his body language. I don't know If I will go as far to say that Canelo will beat Floyd but he would be much more dangerous If he came in @ 167-172 pounds. Now If he's going to come in at 160-166 and try and box with Floyd ashe has indicated then he is just going to gas out and get stopped late simply because that's no longer his natural weight were he is strongest..The question here is not whether Floyd is strong enough to keep a 170+ pound man off him for 12 rounds but whether the 170+ pound man can endure 12 rounds with Floyd. If Canelo doesn't get to Floyd in the early rounds, which will require him to work more than 30-45 seconds a round, there's little reason to believe he will be able to finish him in the later rounds. Heck, by the time Canelo knocked Trout down in the 7th, he was physically unable to follow up and close the show.
I have watched the Ortiz fight and I didn't see any signs that the weight was bothering Floyd. But in any case, Ortiz really isn't a good comp for Canelo. Stamina has never been a problem for Ortiz (from what I understand he has competed in triathlons) and he proved his endurance in the Berto fight. Also, even though Ortiz outweighed Floyd by 14-15 pounds on fight night, he does not have the same body composition as Canelo. The "extra" weight Ortiz carried into the ring was less problematic for Ortiz and his conditioning than the 20+ pounds of extra weight Canelo carries into the ring.
A winded 170 pound fighter is little more than a heavy bag for Floyd in the later rounds.
Let's not forget that Shane did hurt Floyd, BAD. and Shane wasn't near 170 pounds..
Floyd may FAV boxer all time but he really has no business fighting above 150 win or lose this should be his last fight there or else he's going to have to fight Golovkin...Comment

It doesn't matter what he weighs at the weigh-in, if he comes into the ring weighing 170 pounds, Alvarez will not land 75 punches the entire fight and will likely be stopped by round 10 from all the punishment he will absorb. Alvarez should thank God they are using 10-ounce gloves. That is the only thing that may prevent him from being stopped.Last edited by big_james10; 07-04-2013, 10:56 PM.Comment

Big James Mang !!! LIKELY to be STOPPED ????? come on mang , the last legit stoppage was Hatton right ? and he was a little 140 pounder.
Canelo will come in at 165 to 170 and JR will stop him ?

You have to be able to throw a punch to hurt your opponent. This isn't about weight: it becomes very difficult to throw strong punches once the effects of fatigue set in. Get too fatigued, and throwing any punches at all takes a significant amount of one's energy, which creates a vicious downward spiral. A well-conditioned 150 pound man can knock an exhausted 170 pound man out with a single punch.
Canelo's history of gassing out stretches back way before the Trout fight so simply put, Canelo's stocky, muscular frame could be his friend if he can get to Floyd early, but history says it will start to be his enemy come the middle rounds when his aerobic deficiencies start to appear.
All this said, Canelo obviously has the potential to hurt Floyd, as any fighter does, but if knocking your opponent out was as easy as coming in heavy, just about every fighter coming in 15-20 pounds heavier than his opponent would win fights by quick knockout. We know that doesn't happen.
Floyd is by no means a knockout artist, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have enough pop to keep his opponents honest. Mosley says Floyd has about as much pop as Canelo, for whatever that's worth.
Canelo has been hurt by Jose Miguel Cotto and Kermit Cintron, and they're nowhere near as good as Floyd. Does that mean anything?
Shane hit Floyd with punches about as hard and clean as Floyd has ever been hit with. But finish the story: he didn't go down, recuperated very quickly (that, Canelo fans, is one of the advantages of being well-conditioned) and made quick adjustments that had Mosley looking confused in round 3.
If anything, Shane's brief success against Floyd should lead Canelo to ask "How am I going to win the fight if I can't knock Floyd out?", not to assume "Shane hurt him and I'm bigger so I should be able to hurt him too."Comment

He never said he would out box Floyd......it was mistranslated, what he really said was: "Floyd Mayweather can not be out boxed, so we are preparing a different plan to beat him, but make no mistake about it I will come out victorious that night"I disagree. For starters Canelo's chances are already slim to none but I think If Canelo comes in 170+ his chances are better then they would be If he tries to come into the ring at say 163-5 because he would be closer to Floyd's size which would not be good for him because Floyd will be able to handle him more physically, he probably even stops him but at 170+ Floyd would have to pot shot and focus more on avoiding Canelo which may give him more opportunities.. He's not gonna beat Floyd trying to match him in speed he even said he could outbox Floyd
Frigging Ramiro Gonzalez (newly and inexperienced match maker) was translating that day, and man he is horrible at translating.Comment
