Comments Thread For: Canelo Tabs Tito Ramos For Floyd Mayweather Sparring

Apparently, Humberto Ramos was a sparring partner of Floyd's when he was preparing for the Marquez fight. See http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/spo...b198b20a2.html.
It's hard to see how that helps Canelo though. If Ramos is indeed a boxer-puncher and a decent sparring partner, it makes sense that Floyd would use him to get ready for Marquez. But I doubt very much that Ramos can help Canelo train for Floyd. Floyd is a skilled pure boxer, a superb counter-puncher and has one of the highest ring IQs in all of boxing. Canelo needs intelligent, experienced sparring partners, not a 12-0 boxer-puncher who hasn't been in a real fight with name competition.
We'll see who else is brought into Canelo's camp, but if someone on his team thinks there's a good reason to leak Ramos' name, it doesn't sound like they're off to a great start.
As for the reason for leaking the name, think about how paranoid Floyd is of people video taping him sparring. I'm sure that given the option, Floyd wouldn't want an ex-sparring partner telling Canelo everything about his training.Comment

I doubt Canelo brought him in to spar. Tito went through a training camp with Floyd. He didn't just spar the man. He saw Floyd spar other talented fighters up close too... saw what worked against mayweather, and what didn't. Hiring Tito was a pretty smart move in my opinion. He can always hire other guys to actually fight like Floyd. Tito is probably just there for the information.

they should pay rigo a **** load of money to spar with him. joe louis (at lhw) use to love to spar eddie futch (a lightweight) when they where both amateurs.
When Louis was training for the 1934 National AAU Tournament, Futch suggested that he spar with middleweights. Futch said, "I used to ask him, 'Why do you want to box with me? I know what you want—you want speed. But the middleweights are fast enough for you. You're a light heavyweight. Get a middleweight, they're bigger and they're fast enough.' He said, 'No, no, no. I can hit those guys with everything. When I hit you with anything, I know I'm sharp.' So I sparred with him for that tournament."Comment

Rigondeaux the ticket!!!
Someone on here just mentioned Rigo as a sparring option. Wow,...that is the best advice. I agree with this person.
If I were in charge of the Canelo training camp. I would pay Rigo a million dollars to spar throughout training camp with Canelo. Canelo would put in at least 50-60 rounds with him!!
Yes there would be other sparring partners,..maybe a half dozen or so. But half the sparring rounds would be with Rigo. Even if Rigo got the best of him in sparring,..which he probably would. It would still go a long ways. Imagine the sharpness he would reach in preparation.
The biggest thing sparring with Rigo would do,..would be in effectively cutting off the ring,..BINGO!!! Because this will be one of his biggest issues in fighting May.Comment

Yep gotta agree with Rigo for Canelo.
For Canelo's sake I hope tito is just there for information or he's in for a shock.Comment
