I am a defensive fighter also. The thing is though when I watch Rigo I feel he could land a lot more without taking much more if he was just a little more aggressive. Again, Mayweather is a good example of what I mean. He throws a lot more than Rigondeaux but he doesn't get hit more. The problem with Rigondeaux is he's stuck in his amateur ways and you can't teach an old dog new tricks.Comment

Lampley's opinion on Rigo is valid if you look for resume for P4P which a lot of folks do...but I like Kellerman's rationale for P4P better and with that rationale, Rigo is absolutely top 5 P4P.
The funniest part of that show, was Lampley talking shiet bout Showtime for promoting Broner and Paulie's classless antics around Jessica...as if HBO would have handled it any differently lol.
HBO been looking mad salty as of late.Comment

Rigo is a hard sell for the masses. For hardcore fans he is a beauty to watch. But his style doesn't get a lot of fanfareComment

Nah not imo. Floyd is more exciting you must admit. You can't really use the fights Rigo had against bums as an example you've got to use credible opposition when looking at this. When Floyd fought bums he always went for the knockout in the past. Rigondeaux's fights against Cordoba and Donaire is what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong - Floyd could throw more also. However, Mayweather throws enough to not make the fights borderline boring imo. This nonsense about people who don't appreciate Rigo not being boxing purists is nonsense. I've watched boxing since I was about 10 (even though I am only 19) and appreciate all styles to some extent. This does not mean I don't fight some fighters boring.Comment

I think both hold back at times, but Floyd is more exciting, true. I don't mean to say everyone who calls Rigo boring doesn't know boxing, I just expect people who really know or are into boxing to appreciate his style. I hear you though. I love Rigo and Floyd and fighters like Sweet Pea but I also love action fighters like Margarito, Maidana, Gatti, and Bam Bam Rios.Comment

...I remember Rigo coming forward in the first round being the aggressor and staying in Donaire's punching range. Rigo fought a smart fight had a game plan and stuck to it. Donaire and Robert Garcia didn't have a game plan and it was evident. IMO Garcia and Doanire really thought they were going to go in there and blast Rigo out and that didn't even come close to happening. Rigo didn't take a lot risks, but I don't think anyone can say he didn't any risk.
From the looks of things, I wouldn't doubt your assessment of Nonito and Robert's "game-plan". Donaire seemed completely at a loss during the fight. (Although that always seems to happen when an inferior fighter meets a superior boxer.) The way I see it, Nonito made the fight less action-packed than it could've been. He pressed versus Mathebula. Why not against Rigo? You and I know why....Comment
