Zhou Shiming is going to be fighting in Macau whether or not HBO wants to show his fight. His entire country is going to be paying attention to how he does; he's a two-time Gold medalist entering into the professional ranks.

It will cost HBO virtually nothing to show what is a very high-profile event in the boxing world. China is a country with over a billion people, just think of how many of their talented athletes might look at Shiming and see for themselves a future in the sport of boxing?

On top of that think of the attention he will be getting from Chinese-Americans over here!! These people do buy subscriptions and eventually PPVs for their fighters, just look at the great success Pacquiao enjoys over here. A big part of it is that he made boxing a huge sport in the Philippines, and the Filipino-Americans support him well for it.

It costs HBO virtually nothing to show this fight and it will create exposure for boxing to new fans. More boxing fans is good for the sport of boxing in the long term. What is the downside to HBO showing this fight?
Exactly. HBO can AFFORD these fights, yet is blocking GBP fighters? For what?

HBO developed plenty of Golden Boy fighters and in return Golden Boy shopped their fighters over to Showtime instead. HBO isn't going to stand by and let itself become Showtime's feeder network.

HBO can afford better fights IMO

to name a few. The four fighters still participating in HBO events before HBO announced their switch were Adrien Broner, Keith Thurman, Bernard Hopkins and Seth Mitchell, everybody else was moved to Showtime.

Those fighters were hardly developed by HBO. How many HBO fights did they have combined.

You're going to say with a straight face that Mayweather wasn't developed by HBO? Let alone ANYBODY else on this list?

The number of combined fights for everyone below Mayweather is something like 15-20, that's not counting fighters I didn't list like Alexander, Garcia and as you mentioned Berto. With those names the number is closer to 30 fights combined. That's not counting Mayweather mind you.
