If you watch Golovkins fight you'll see his defence is actually quite good. He uses footwork to put his opponents in a bad position to land cleanly, slips jabs effectively and knows how to put just the right about of distance between him and the other fighter so that there shots wont reach. Also look closely at how he avoids body shots, he blocks them with the extension and rotation of his elbow, he also uses his arms as an artificial way when backing up to avoid the fighter being able to bull-rush him effectively. He is a very smart fighter.

I'd rate his defense as good, better than competent, you can see his amateur background lets him know which punches need to be avoided and which are not meant to hurt.

I don't see the MW division being much weaker than many of the other divisions to be honest.

It's irrelevant anyway since Golovkin is willing to fight across three divisions, I think his coach might also have mentioned 175.

Its not his game and he still does it very well! You need to be a defensively minded fighter to have a good defense? I dont get it. Defensive fighters would love to have a defense like Golovkin's, the guy rarely gets hit with clean shots.

He would get countered and frustrated all night.
Martinez has been a great champion and his defeat of Chavez Jr. was a beautiful boxing clinic save for the 12th round, but based on Sergio's injuries and his performance in his last fight, I think a duel with GGG could be Sergio's last.

Golovkin, unlike Chavez Jr., applies smart, effective pressure, can hurt his opponents beyond repair with just one or two shots, and is an excellent finisher as evidenced by his knockout percentage. If you expect Golovkin to knock Sergio down, there's no reason to believe that Martinez would be likely to recover and fight on to win. In fact, based on what we have seen from Golovkin thus far, if Golovkin sends Martinez to the canvas, there's a very good chance Maravilla won't get up.

                GGG was very impressive....

Cant knock the guy now that he has destroyed a legit 160 contender....

I like GGG alot but doubt we will get any meaningful fights like serg in the future...

Golovkin and his coach have said in the future (2-3 years) they will go to 175 if there are fighters willing to face him, but for now he is focused on the middleweight and also 154 if good fighters give him the option. (big names or fighters which will help HBO make him the star he is and will be)

well its not like the guy fights anyone whos capable of testing it. everyone is so scared of his power, they are running away from him. the one guy who stood up to his power was ouma, and he penetrated his defense pretty well.

does competent mean bad? i didnt think it did. my point is hes not overwhelmingly hard to hit. he had a solid defense. im not wowed by it or anything im not gonna sit up here and talk it up but thats not his game at all so theres no need to. i dunno what it is about this site that if u dont praise everything a fighter does u are somehow not giving him enough praise. its weird.
