Comments Thread For: Oosthuizen-Gonzales Battle To a Draw, Willie Nelson Wins

MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - In a battle of undefeateds, IBO light heavyweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (21-0-2, 13KOs) kept his title, since it was a non-title contest, but he was unable to stop the unbeaten streak of Brandon Gonzales (17-0-1, 10KOs) - as they fought to a ten round draw. The scores were 98-92 for Gonzales, 96-94 for Oosthuizen and 95-95 for the draw.

Gonzales started strong, blasting Oosthuizen with hard punches in the first round. Oosthuizen tried stepping up the pace in the second. However, Oosthuizen was unable to deal with Gonzales' quicker hands and better skills. Gonzales was landing better, landing hard, and more active with his punches. Oosthuizen rallied in the final three rounds and it seemed to be enough to gain the draw.

I merit it a draw based on what neither fight could do; Oosthuizen didn't utilize his height or figure the Gonzalez puzzle out. Gonzalez for all the work he did, at most hurt Tommy but not enough to make Tommy gunshy nor did he dominate.

Tommy Gun took forever to get into a rhythm. Gonzales fought a great fight.

Neither were too impressive. I'm surprised TG didn't engage more.

Oosthuizen has a ways to go. If Gonzalez had sat down on his punches just a little more, he could've seriously rocked him. As for Nelson, Cuello definitely had his number on occasion. That and the Oosthuizen/Gonzalez fights would be great as rematches.
