Why dont boxers fight on other holidays???

The biggest events in boxing have been on or near May 5th and Sept 16th. Both are Mexican holidays however why dont the promoters have fights on July 4th or Memorial Day weekend or Xmas, Thanksgiving.

I would love to celebrate the 4th of July with a nice BBQ a big time fight and some fireworks. I would rather enjoy the 3 day Memorial day weekend or longer 4 day Thanksgiving weekend with a nice mega fight.

How do you guys think the fights would do if they were held on these dates? Both PPV and not PPV like a Garcia Judah or Ortiz Guererro?

Come on Rocky fought Drago on Christmas Eve in RUSSIA! haha

Because they are catering to the largest, most important fan base in boxing. Mexicans and Mexican/Americans.

That only explains two days of the year.

Personally, I'd love to see HBO, SHOWTIME, NBC, step outside the box a little. What would hurt throwing, say Andre Ward or whoever on July 4th? Boxing is kinda stuck in the same format right now. Saturday nights ONLY for bigger names.

IM Mexican and Ill buy agood fight on whatever day
that is an ignorant statement there bro but hey its your opinion and I did ask for it

So let me ask you another question
Why wouldnt the same Mexicans purchase a PPV on July 4th or Memorial Day weekend? Because no company give you the 5th of May off or 16th of Sept cause they are not holidays here in the states where as you get my mentioned days off as national holidays so even more reason to celebrate. My family celebrates the 4th and all but sadly they celebrate more the extra days off from work than the actual holiday haha

dude that's not ignorant at all just speaking on what he knows it wouldn't hurt if they did expand the fights more than just those holidays for other ethnic groups to pull in more but at this moment he's right biggest boxing fans come from mexico and mexican americans get that **** going and push for it then i think it would benefit other fighters as well pick up there fan base

I agree they should do it on other holidays. But, what do you and your family do for 4th of July?

I'd be down to watch a good scrap on the 4th of July! The only problem is that most families are out enjoying fireworks during the evening hours when the fights normally take place. Christmas or Thanksgiving might be a better option.
