Comments Thread For: Calzaghe: Groves Has a Chance To Defeat Carl Froch

Joe Calzaghe believes George Groves is capable of conquering Carl Froch if their British battle goes ahead.

Froch currently holds the WBA and IBF super-middleweight belts and is willing to face Groves if he becomes a mandatory challenger for one of his titles.

The Nottingham man had previously dismissed Groves and James DeGale as possible opponents, claiming he would ruin the unbeaten duo's careers if they met in the ring.

Calzaghe insists Froch should not berate his British rivals for calling him out and accused 'The Cobra' of acting in a similar manner when he reigned the division.

The Welshman accepts that Groves would be a big outsider against a seasoned champion like Froch, but feels he could spring an upset with the correct game plan.

"He would be the underdog I think, but yeah I think he has a chance," Calzaghe told Ringside Toe 2 Toe podcast.

Calzaghe is the type of fighter who can say that Froch might be outboxed.
Cal and Ward are that type.

Calzaghe's doing Eddie Hearn's work for him by promoting this mismatch.

Even grandpa B-Hop can outbox Carl to this point. But not Groves.

I'm no fan of Froch but Carl would definitely go in a the favourite against Groves and Degale - Degale as 0% chance but Groves has an outside chance- but Froch in my book is still the favourite.

That's pretty much what Calzaghe said. Groves the underdog but with the right taxctics has a chance to outbox Froch.

Froch will stay behind his 600 long jabs per fight and also use his granite chin to win a pointless fight.

His performance against DeGale is nothing to brag about. Most people thought DeGale won. The kid won't even entertain a rematch.

not exactly bragging about the degale fight , i'm just stating facts whether fans think degale won or not , groves got the w. plus his tactics were spot on that night , boxing off the back foot considering at the time people thought he couldn't do that.george will adapt to froch's style.
