But when they're that low in weight, say 118, and move up to say 130, they might gain a lot of muscle in order to get there. Since they'd add more muscle mass, you could actually see them gain both strength and speed. Handspeed might decrease some but footspeed could go up.
I'm not suggesting it's easy to make the weight class, I'm suggesting it's not as big of a deal when you're talking about 6 weight classes. If it's all within such a small weight class. The frames of most fighters in that range could all make 130 and probably walk around above that. That's why it's crazy if you look at a guy like Duran who moved (6?) weight classes but it was around 50 pounds.

Why do people state that he started at 106 and say he moved all the way up to 130?

Have you heard of something called GROWING...?

I see what you're saying, but there would be little to no guys who start at 108 that could move up and KO guys like Barrera and Morales. I know they started lower themselves, but what Manny's done is no doubt a very special and rare case with the wins he's had.

          Did Barrera grow like that?

Duran was like that. But was Barrera like that?

          Nope.

            can you name some fighters?

Pacman seems to be the only guy who can do it...its harder for little guys to be devastating in power when they move up... bigger guys are naturally bigger and have a good base of power to work from and build on...look at tito trinidad.

do you think jorge arce will be devastating if he moves up to 130 pounds since he walks around weighing 135 the same weight as barrera.

Keep in mind that Pac himself was fighting Morales/Barrera who themselves came from lower weight classes.

^LMAO not much lower! 122 and they were still bigger when they cut weight especially morales.

Hector velasquez a natural 130 and 135 pound fighter! he also walks around at 165. and he got pummeled by a guy who used to fight at 108 pounds!

JMM natural 126 pounder and a bigger guy.

What about Trinidad? He knocked the LIVING **** out of William Joppy and Cherifi. And Mayorga. I'd say he increased in power. Yeah he didn't knock out Hopkins or Wright, but that's because they both totally outboxed him and didn't let him hit them. Hopkins has a great chin anyhow and is used to middleweight shots. Or are you saying Trinidad is an example? It isn't clear from your wording.

It depends on the fighter who can pack on muscle and power. Zab seemed to add power when he moved to welterweight. His punches were definitely more powerful than 140.

I can't name many smaller guys because unfortunately I don't know very much about a lot of them, due to the fact of VERY limited US exposure. But, I know muscle is muscle. Adding muscle would increase your strength and your weight at the same time. But, muscle obviously isn't the only thing there is to power punching. Speed and the type of punch also play important roles. And counters are usually the most effective punches.
