Comments Thread For: Schaefer: People Expected Paulie To Fight Like 11-1 Dog

Adrien Broner became a world champion at a third different weight after a split-decision victory over Paulie Malignaggi in New York handed him the WBA welterweight title. Two judges scored the bout 117-111 and 115-113 in favor of the unbeaten 23-year-old, with the other handing Malignaggi a 115-113 win.

The verdict saw Broner, who has also held the WBC world title at lightweight and WBO strap at super-featherweight, take home the gold after stepping up two weight divisions for the contest. Malignaggi battled gamely at Barclays Center but was ultimately outworked by his 23-year-old opponent. [Click Here To Read More]

Stop lying Schaefer, you were expecting Broner to destroy him, as did everyone else. Paulie showed grit, and Broner was mediocre to put it lightly.

I expected him to fight the way he did. I didn't expect it to trouble Broner so much.

Agreed. Mediocre at best. AB lost me as a fan after that post interview.

GBP and Schaefer are full of excrement. If most experts felt the fight was 117-111 then they should be upset at the scorecard that favored Malignaggi by two points and yell that it was a hometown judge. And now Schaefer is on Spin Control trying to explain why Broner looked Mediocre against a Feather Fisted Malignaggi, when it is obvious that Broner did not carry his power to welterweight. Bunch of clowns over at Golden Boy and maybe that's why Al Haymons punkass runs the show.

The minute Broner faces someone that can crack and can't be walked down, he will be embarrassed! He has no footwork and mediocre defense.

If you can stick and work off a continuous jab with more pop them feather fisted Paulie then you have a chance to beat Adrian.

Paulie had NO power to hurt AB or even slow him down.

AB will have trouble at WW even maybe 140.

It's not that he doesn't possess these tools but against light punching Malignaggi he never had to use footwork. I promise you if he were to fight Marcos Maidas or Lucas Matthysse he would use better defense. Broner gets a little lazy but he is definitely capable of better defense.
