  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather Sr: Malignaggi Can't Do Anything To Broner

Later tonight, inside of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in Showtime-televised attraction, WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) will look to defend his crown against one of the flashiest and brashest faces in the sport when he tangles with Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s).

Despite moving up two weight classes for the fight, Broner, a former champion at 130 and 135 pounds, is an overwhelming favorite heading into the match due to various factors.

Asked for his assessment of the contest, renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. seemed to agree with the odds. [Click Here To Read More]

HUGE Broner fan but i must say Mayweather Sr. is right about this one. Broner has not showed the ability as yet to be an elite "thinker" and that will seperate him from Mayweather in greatness UNLESS he can become more cerebral. He is the Lebron James to Mayweather's Michael Jordan. Broner has the physical skill set that if paired with the cerebral genius of a Jordan or Mayweather, would make him almost IMPOSSIBLE for anyone around his weight to beat. BUT Broner is more like LeBron, physically gifted beyond most (minus his height) but not as cerebral as say Kobe or MJ. So i'm not so convinced yet that he can be a great mind in the ring as much as I am convinced he will be a great showman and performer in it.

There are a few fighters that Broner's skill set alone wont allow him to beat, so when he does face them, I will be anxious to see if The Problem show can us that he is indeed able to adapt faster and adjust on the fly in fights where he is matched with a style difficult to his own.

Broner still taxes Malinaggi's ass tonight tho! Paulie is spent!

Wow to say broner is like lebron is beyond me. Broner has not fought anyone with any credit. My opinion is alot of peeps have no idea what boxing is at all. Mayweather boxes all night and all love him but when you have Cuban boxes do the same everyone complains. Ohh by the way lebron will be beyond Jordan real soon.

I'm eager to see Broner display his skill set to the max, not just coast towards titles that don't mean anything. If he takes Paulie's belt (which I think he will) and then pursues another payday soft touch instead of tackling a 140/147 ****er, he will have exemplified the crappy business side of boxing.

Yes, overall Broner has been a solid performer (albeit against smaller opponents) but his ring IQ does not match that of Floyd. Not close at all. He's still developing though. He holds a lot of potential. But for some reason I don't see him being the disciplined professional for the long term.

That's the way I see , you don't have to beat the best guys to be able to see the A grade stamp on a fighter as he matures , Broner has that stamp whether he fulfills his full potential that's another thing but the kid is all ability .

The Malignaggi from a few years back would have given Broner a pretty tough fight.

I don't see it tonight, though. Too much wear and tear, and I don't see Broner getting beat by 85 billion jabs, and that's it.

Broner stops him in the championship rounds.

He is fast and has some pop. Beyond that, he tries to use a shoulder roll defense but gets tagged for his efforts and he keeps his mouth open when he punches.

When he fights another guy with some speed and power, that jaw of his is bound to crack.

Broner doesn't have the ring IQ Mayweather has (who does?)...

Broner's performance against Ponce revealed that. He seemed to solve the puzzle during the mid rounds, but reverted to boxing on the outside waiting for counterpunching opportunities after he found it difficult timing and landing on him.

It seems as if that fight is a turning point because Broner went from a stationary counterpuncher to a pressure counterpuncher. Suits him better.
