Comments Thread For: Nathan Cleverly: Kovalev is Going To Get a Serious Shock!

WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly and challenger Sergey Kovalev will collide at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on Saturday 17th August in an explosive clash of unbeaten fighters.

Cleverly, 26, puts his title on the line for the sixth time against the iron-fisted Russian who's knocked out 19 of 21 opponents with a staggering 18 coming inside three rounds.

The fight will be televised live and exclusive in the UK on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/****** Ch. 546) and HBO will broadcast across America.

Cleverly is delighted that he's got the fight he wanted and is now focused inflicting the first defeat on Kovalev’s record and prove that’s he’s not invincible.

Some constructive comments would be welcome.

My take on this is that Cleverly is the better boxer but he can sometimes lose focus in the second half of fights and get himself mixed up in a useless brawl. Kovalev has fight changing power but he hasn't fought at this level before (there was Campillo but I've always thought of him as overrated).

So will Kovalev be able to detonate or can Clev stick to a solid game plan and jab, move his way to a win? I reckon Cleverly gets a UD.

          Can't wait for this.

Sink or swim time for Cleverly.

Going to be a competitive fight IMO.

I would like to see Cleverly back this guy up behind his jab. I've seen people try to box and move against Kovalev but he's got decent foot-speed and cuts the ring off quite well. I have a feeling he can't fight too well going backwards.

"Cleverly is delighted that he's got the fight he wanted"???
The Welsh math teacher is delusional -- math poetry mixed up with the brutal art of boxing results in dynamite into some guys' brains...

Kovalev is not a brawler. Kovalev is the personification mobile power -- KO punches in both hands, perfect balance. Kovalev's apparent minimalist style hides intricate boxing skills and unmatched force.

Clev will have to take a dive somewhere between rounds 3rd and 5th.
