Comments Thread For: Arum Says No Approach on Ward, But Would Sign if Free

BoxingScene reported earlier this week that Super Middleweight champion Andre Ward was in the process of trying to break ties from current promoter Goosen Tutor after being with the promotional company since the start of his professional career.

The rumors around the boxing circuit were Ward was looking to break from Goosen in order to sign with Top Rank. BoxingScene caught up with Bob Arum who stated they have not been in any type of contact with Ward in regards to making him a Top Rank fighter.

Ward going to Top Rank would be HUGE news for boxing, and very good news at that.

Ward is talented, intelligent, family-oriented, and hugely accomplished in the sport of boxing and he is still very young. He is the kind of fighter who could make an impression on the general public, if only they knew about him. Winning the Super Six made Andre Ward very famous in the boxing world, but it did not make him a superstar in the same way that my co-workers know who Floyd Mayweather is.

Top Rank is a company that knows how to take talented fighters and sell them to the public. They have been doing it for years. Andre Ward is an American Olympic gold medalist, the kind of fighter that everyone can get behind. He may not be the most exciting in the world, but he's confident and personable, and he's a good person in his personal life.

Top Rank can do a lot with a guy like that, and a guy like that can do a lot for boxing among the general public. They can certainly do better for Ward than has been done for him now. There's no reason he can't sell out arenas with some better promotion.

Another name to his stable..... having a big backer like that would certainly help him.

Ward could beat Chavez Jr so easily, I expect him to fight Chavez's fight just to entertain the fans. Some good exchanges, just to get the fans excited.
