Comments Thread For: Hopkins Discusses The Mayweather-Canelo Catch-Weight

IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins spoke to BoxingScene.com about the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The match takes place at a catchweight of 152-pounds - two pounds shy of the junior middleweight limit. Alvarez, the WBC/WBA champion, will have to cut two-pounds. Mayweather, the WBC's champion at 147, will come up in weight by five-pounds, but he also holds the WBA's "super title" at 154 and fought twice in the past at the full junior middleweight limit.

Bernard Hopkins is a legend... a monument...
But he should seriously consider retirement right now -- he should embrace a career in promotion...

They could come in at 154 and mayweather still gives alvared a boxing lesson. Alvared is going to find out that he's no in the ring with trout or any of the small chefs that are on his resume.

They should have decided 160, shouldn't they?

            World Jr. Middleweight Champion: Vacant
Vacant Since: Winky Wright Vacated November 7, 2005
I'm surprised that Floyd didn't take the fight at 154 lbs. He obviously doesn't need any ABC belts to make money, but to be officially considered the best at Jr. Middleweight (if he wins) would be great for his legacy.

              Selling the fight

Hopkins is selling the fight he would join the Klan to make money and try to sell mayweather. Hopkins made weight to make money he was the guy that had to please the other fighters oops somewhat like now. Look the part i will tell you what to say. Schaeffers puppet and a good fighting puppet. I like to see hopkins fight but as far as talk hell no

BHop's day job is fighter and promoter. He doesn't care about coming on NSB just to hate on floyd. The 152 lb weight is something manny fans and floyd haters will hold onto because in their mind floyd being a hypocrite outside the ring takes away from what he's done inside the ring.

Bhop will always have my respect. He has been exceptional for so many years and still going. I would've never guessed that he would still be fighting at this high of a level and winning belts.

Sounds good but too bad Floyd just couldn't do that
