The difference between fighters who can come back from a loss and those that can't

There are a lot of bogus theories about lack of character etc on why top boxers when they lose fall to pieces mentally and never come back to their former form. Fighters like Donald Curry after Honeyghan beat him, Hagler never came to terms with his loss to Leonard,Hamed effectively quit when he lost to Barrrera. Hatton is another example. Other fighters like Ali and Leonard could come back from defeats as strong if not stronger.
So what separates them? Is it character whatever that is? I don't believe that is the case because you need to have "character" to go through the development in order to become a champion in the first place. So why does one person break and another not after the loss. I know the answer and it is not just in sport this happens but in business also.
Why do you think some can come back from a loss and others can't?

    guys like

Pacquiao and Marquez who lost in the 90's had no problem coming back because they're ATG's. But guys like Cotto will never be able to handle a defeat because they're not at that level. Infact no where near it.. mentally, physically, technically etc

The real issue here is the ability to come back to "THEIR" relative level. When a fighter is broken and a shadow of their "former selves" and can't perform up to previous ability that is the indication of not being able to handle the consequences of defeat. Cotto is a prime example of falling away after defeat and it is that aspect that prevented him having a chance of being an ATG.

Cotto was an interesting case, simply because it was apparent that once he was faced with adversity, those same demons would come back to haunt him. You could see it in the Clottey fight as well as the Pacquiao fight, and the commentators weren't afraid to bring it up either.

Lewis impressively came back from defeat to beat Rahman, did it like nothing ever happened.

          Interresting question

Whatever it is, its what is most facinating about boxer IMO.

That is what made Ali a legend, he got beat by Frazier, frazier got anialated by a Prime beasty formann.

Ali came back and against all ods, found a way and beat formann by knockout, that night Ali showed something that no man that followed boxing at the time will ever forget.

I KNOW the answer and it is really simple but to many it is a complete mystery and it is my hope some aspiring boxer will learn and profit from it when I reveal it. But in the mean time I look forward to more replies.

Maidana is also has that something.

The Ortiz fight was incredible, he got knocked down 3 times and ended up making ortiz quit!!!, that says alot.

He also got knocked down by a perfect bodypunch by kahn that would have ended 99.9 % of fights, he got up and yet clearly affected by the punch he whent on to neraly knocking out kahn.

That is someone you would like to have by your side going into war.

guys that can't come back from a loss is usually because they were never that good to begin with, and it likely has more to do with the level he is now facing
