Clinching is part of the game, yes Wladimir uses it, but usually not excessively. Naturally, bigger fighters will tie up the smaller man during infight. Nothing new.

Wladimir uses his jab and movement a lot, that's why opponents rarely get to him these days.

It's a defensive technique. Yes technically against the rules, but you see it in every pro fight. Part of the game.

Maybe Povetkin will try what Haye did, drop to his knees and stick his head in Wlad's crotch every round.

It's not 'technically' against the rules. It's blatantly against the rules.

Excessive holding leads to point deductions. 20 initiated clinches/holdings = 1 point deducted.

David Haye would know about the former.

Yes he would. He did have a couple of fights where he rabbit punched. He also was deducted points. Wlad on the other hand have 15+ fights with excessive holding, getting 1 or 2 points deducted.

Slight exaggeration I think; but, if he can do it, and get away with it, why not? Lennox had a reputation for clinching, too.

Because if you're a true champion, weighing 20 pounds more and being 3 inches taller than most of your opponents, do you really need illegal tactics to win?

Lennox did clinch. But Wlad took it to a new level.

Wasn't Wlad deducted a point in the Haye fight for holding? It's not like the refs just ignore, not even in Deutschland, second home of the Klitschko's.
