Comments Thread For: Golovkin Wants Andre Ward, Chavez Jr. in The Future

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is currently in the final stages of his training camp for his June 29th fight against Mathew Macklin.

While the fight against Macklin is a dangerous one, boxing fans and insiders alike can't help but speculate on potential match ups against some of the biggest names in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. You can count Golovkin himself amongst those who wonder how he would fare against the elite names around his weight class.

"Absolutely. Right now my focus is on middleweight but in the future why not? Andre Ward is one of the best in the sport. I think the fight is great for everybody. Not just for the fans but for the whole sport. I work with HBO now and I am open to fights with everybody. Some guys are on Showtime so that could be a problem. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a big guy. I would like to fight him in the future or anybody else but right now I'm focused on Macklin," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com. [Click Here To Read More]

I cant see Ward and GGG fighting anytime soon. Maybe Chavez Jr if they can meet at a CW. But Ward is too big for GGG, who is undersized at MW.

No way 3G gives Chavez Jr. the edge by giving him a catch weight. As soon as his contract with HBO is up he's going after Canelo and Kid Chocolate.

I say he fights both. However, GGG might be similar to Abraham where he looked very dominant at MW but once he went up to SMW he looked too small and didn't carry his devastating power with him.

Its possible but i feel like GGG is an overall better boxer than abraham. But who knows until GGG fights somebody good.

This is what makes me a fan of a fighter , one who is willing to take on all comers.

Why no canelo? Win or lose against mayweather, canelo and GGG would be a tremendous fight, and would really help in getting ggg's name out there.

Chavez is a great fight too, just would rather see canelo in there. Ward I doubt we'll see.

I was thinking the same thing. Ward is a big, highly skilled, natural super-middleweight and GGG is a light middleweight who because of his power can fight at middleweight. Not sure how that power would translate to super-middleweight against the best fighter in that division. Ward is one tough customer and even any current light-heavyweight would be hard pressed to give him a challenge.

I'd rather see GGG fight either Peter Quillin or Martinez. Chavez Jr. is another good option. Just my nickel's worth.
