Mares certainly has a better shot at beating Rigondeaux than Donaire did. For one, as you mentioned, Mares has shown an ability to adapt to every style he's faced thus far. Donaire never needed that ability because he was such a dynamic puncher. Secondly, Mares actually knows how to cut off the ring. He won't follow Rigo around in a straight line all night like Donaire did. Lastly, Mares won't be headhunting all night like Donaire did. Mares is a fighter who understands the importance of going to the body when the head isn't there to be hit.
Rigondeaux would still be the favorite though, and with good reason. But Mares is definitely capable of giving him a fight.
The could very well possible unless Mares gets hit early(like Donaire did) and becomes a little hesitant to let go his hands. That will change everything.

Donaire is more than capable of cutting off the ring. There is a reason why people "seem" to follow Rigo around the ring. When ever anyone tries to get inside on Rigo, he is going to rip you to the body, his body will be harder than yours.
People only have to take a couple of those shots before they become reluctant to actually try and get inside on Rigo, and give in to just following him around staying at range, hoping for something.
I honestly believe that Rigo's left to the body is p4p the hardest shot in the sport at the moment. It is unimaginably ferocious.
Even if they dont land, hes usually got something behind it.
Im telling y'all it chemito moreno
Would be a boring fight but moreno has the best chance...
Mares and donaire are just going to walk into big shots
Only because Moreno has the weirdest style in the game today. It would be boring as hell too.
I still say Hasegawa. He isn't bothered by fighters who will let him dictate the fight, or aren't punchers. His quickness and hand speed, it will present problems. Rigo won't be able to just pot shot and I don't believe Rigo has the 1 punch power to stop Hozumi.
It would be relatively close but i'd give it to my boy Hozumi on ring generalship.

I might agree with you but just have not seen much of hasegawa to make an adequate assessment of his skills.... but from what you are saying, then yes he has a good shot to beat rigo..
The guy that beats rigo will be a pure fast-handed boxer in a boring fight
Nino would probably whip Mares, thats how big the difference is between Rigo and Mares.
Rigo would annihilate Mares. Look, Rigo is the best fighter on the planet. No one can beat him. And no one will ever be able to beat this version of Rigo.
2. rigo is not a big 122-er either so don't think he'll fight higher. Mares might not come back down as he would need all strength and energy to have a chance.
