Who has a chance of beating Rigondeaux?

Donaire looked the most dangerous opponent for Rigondeaux but going into that fight I felt he had only a slim punchers chance. I just don't see anyone out there capable of testing him let alone beating him. Who do you see as the boxer who has the best shot against him?

I'd like to see Mares try. He has shown he can adapt to any style, maybe he can figure out Rigo? BIG if tho, Guillermo is mesmerizing when he's at his best.

Mares certainly has a better shot at beating Rigondeaux than Donaire did. For one, as you mentioned, Mares has shown an ability to adapt to every style he's faced thus far. Donaire never needed that ability because he was such a dynamic puncher. Secondly, Mares actually knows how to cut off the ring. He won't follow Rigo around in a straight line all night like Donaire did. Lastly, Mares won't be headhunting all night like Donaire did. Mares is a fighter who understands the importance of going to the body when the head isn't there to be hit.

Rigondeaux would still be the favorite though, and with good reason. But Mares is definitely capable of giving him a fight.

Mares will be the first guy to really get to Rigo, and give him major problems. I still think Rigo wins.

              Mares fans will cry robbery.

                Completely agree. Excellent post.

What weight do you think they should fight? 126? Mares looked really strong at 126.

I'd like to see it at 126, but I have a feeling that Rigondeaux wouldn't play ball that way. They'll likely try to leverage him as the bigger draw of the two (lol) and demand that Mares meet him at a catchweight of 124 or something, if not move down to 122 entirely.

That's if the fight is even seriously discussed, which I have my doubts about, what with the promotional rivalry between GBP and TR. This is a fight that I'd honestly be surprised if it got signed.
