Sad really, maybe one day boxing will demand every boxer to go thru a finance seminar before turning pro, too many boxers are being taken advantage of, and too many boxers waste money and don't have a plan B.

Gamboa had 2 promoters consisting of Oner and Top Rank and 1-2 manager(s) (one of them being Oner (which is illegal in the US, but legal in Germany or wherever the agreements took place)). The standard fee for 1 of these promoters is around 30%, the co-promotional arrangement had to have been from a substantial amount of Gamboa's purse. The standard managerial fee is 15%, the plural is in parenthesis because in addition to his promoter/manager, Gamboa hired a lawyer to get him out of the contracts (Oner helped Gamboa defect so he had to agree to certain contracts before he even defected from Cuba).

As you can see, a $1M purse after taxes (approx. 40% for a non-US citizen), promotional, managerial, and training fees (usually 10% for an established trainer seemingly answering my question as to why Gamboa hired his father to be his trainer) comes out to less than $200,000, even looking at a conservative estimate.
And he never got that million dollar purse for a fight, but that was standard procedure for most of his purses.
That actually makes alot of sense and i knew Oner sure took advantage of him to get him out of Cuba but that is extreme fk over. But i still think he is going to need a real trainer and in perfect world go back down where the Good money and where he shines.

50 cent already spent more than a million dollars with this guy. He settled his lawsuit, bought his contract with Arum, fed him, housed him, promoted him. It's an investment that hasn't paid off.

Man, how many 50 cents are there in the sport today?

Had a lot of hope for Yuri, sadly I think for all his talent he's reached his ceiling.

I feel sorry for Gamboa but this is an unforgiving sport/buisness

The Snakes always get what they want while the Boxers get screwed

He won't be the first not the last.......

It's time for a Boxing Union dammit!

I can tell you the guy isn't good with money. When he first came on the scene, and I mean really early into his TV career, he already bought a Lambo. ****** decision when you're just starting to make you're fortune and it can all go to ****. Like it seems to have done.
