The only thing JC does better than Ward is throw a ton more meaningless punches. Ward is better at everything else.

Is this even serious? The only people who think calzaghe would do anything are diehard calzaghe fans. No one else believes that nonsense. Ward is an all around better fighter by far. Calzaghe never was anything special. Ward is better than him in every single department. Let me take that back, calzaghe was a better slapper and he's by far better at fighting bums and having a padded record and then fighting old legends past their prime. Even then an old past his prime Hopkins arguably beat him.

This is laughable. If an old past his prime Hopkins can arguably beat him, what do you think a prime Andre ward would do to him?

If the Hopkins that Calzaghe fought could fight Ward I see ward struggling big time. Unfortunately Hopkins has slowed even more now but 5 years ago he would be taxing that ass.

It's "ekes".. Poor old Richard, although he looks pretty well. And Calzaghe had far too much for Ward, especially in his prime. He could shift up to whatever gears necessary. We never really ever found his limits.
Eeks is appropriate as that's what the fans would be saying after watching that stinker of a fight.

And Calslapghe was a fraud who I don't see beating any in-prime world-class fighter. There's a reason he hid out in Wales until the real fighters in his division got old.

Listen everyone talks about Hopkins showing up Joe's lack of skill set and technique at the highest level, and I agree to a certain extent, but Hopkins also didnt get off with much at all, and fought a fight where he really tried to steal it.

Plus for me Ward is not on the level of a Hopkins or a Jones, he is a slight level below that. I know a lot of people would disagree, but just my opinion. Its another conversation.

You could say Hopkins was past his prime when he fought Joe, which he was, and that Hopkins is not on the level f the current Ward, but then again I would say Calzaghe was also past his best at 175.

I think Ward is better, as you can see from my prediction. I just didn't agree with exactly what you said.
Good post, although I cannot agree Joe was much for defense or anything related to masterminding. Goes back to my original point.. He would walk in like a man possessed if he felt compelled. No craft going in. The best I could say was that he would punch his way in where others would be more thoughtless, definitely that, but overall he was on the cruder side of what he's given credit for. He was definitely an attacker.. The fights themselves tell the story. Again just my opinion.

It would be a close fight either way.

I think Calzaghe would pull away down the stretch.

Everybody struggles against Hopkins because he's an intelligent fighter with all the tricks, but even that Hopkins that fought calzaghe couldn't beat ward. Hopkins will tell you himself. I don't think people really give ward the credit he deserves yet. People just don't know what they're looking at. He's extremely intelligent and he's wise way wise beyond his years. That's why he's able to adjust on the fly to any style and nullify it and then proceed to dominate fighters.

A prime Hopkins vs Ward would be a highly skilled chess match that I would enjoy watching just based on their ring IQ. Only a prime Hopkins could hang with ward because any version of him after that loses to ward and even Hopkins knows that. Calzaghe on the other hand gets his as$ whopped by both of them, prime or not. It doesn't matter because calzaghe wasn't a great fighter, he was a good fighter based on his win over Kessler but that's it. Who else did he beat when it mattered?

                  Go ahead I'll wait............

Calzaghe needed a gift decision to beat Hopkins. That fight only remotely competitive because Hopkins has no speed anymore.

Ward would stop him like he did to Dawson, like a prime Hopkins would have too.
