Comments Thread For: Jorge Melendez To Protest Decision Loss To Nick Brinson

A formal complaint will be filed on Wednesday with the State Athletic Commission of New York by Edwin Diaz, manager of Puerto Rican puncher Jorge "Destroyer" Melendez (26-3-1, 25 KO's), asking for the annulment of last Friday's decision loss to Nick Brinson at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York. According to Diaz, Melendez had Brinson seriously hurt in the fourth round and was close to putting him away, but the referee Charlie Fitch, who Diaz states has worked in about four Brinson fights, jumped in to issue a standing eight count - which the manager says is not allowed under the governing rules.

He needs to take that loss like a man. The moment he dazed Brinson was one of the only rounds he won. If no standing 8 is allowed in the fight then fine protest but Melendez got schooled and showed he was a one dimensional fighter

Actually it was not ruled a standing 8 count per se, it was that since the fighter was kept up by the ropes, it was counted as a knock down and the same as if the fighter got to his feet. Brinson deserved the decision without question IMO.
He fought a great fight especially with only a week's notice.

I saw the fight, and I believe the ref was in the right there. A rematch would be the better course for Melendez.

          saved by the ref

I think he's right the ref didn't call it a knock down or else that round would of been a 10 -8 round and brinson was about to be knockout

What? Is this a real article? Sit down, Jorge. Go back to KOing guys in Puerto Rico. You lost this fight 9 rounds to 1, buddy. And when the ropes hold a guy up, I hate to tell ya, but it's a knockdown.

Let's be realistic and not Hypocrite

Brian is a real *****, once he get announced the A NEW " All he's Pain go away like nothing happend, The guy can't take a Pounch and I see how the referee save he ass clearly, he even don't touch the canva and the referre, give him huge break to recover..

About Melendez all he did was going to KO since 1st round, and he know if he stay in center of the ring it was over for him, all he have to do is Invite him to the corner, smart way in which he never did..

And yes melendez go with a mentality of KO, he can't do that he need to start using that long reach he got Jabbing..

You guy always repeat same **** as the commentator, 2 week notice bla, bla, bla what about if he got a training Camp, Bull ****,.. you can have a good trainging camp and get KO 1st 20 sec .

Brain is a guy ho always is in the GIM, I boxer ho goes to a ring and figth smart as he did , ..

He is very close to be a PIG Boxer, holding down, and biching all entier figth, Whatch once he get a figth even with Angulo our another ellite boxer he is DONE.

He lost the fight but he does has a case of a really bad ref call. Brinson was very hurt and the ref step in without him (Brinson) touching the floor or was between the ropes to proceed the count.

Jayson velez will be next. The only current fighters I think have a possibility to land a shot or to hold a title is Dulorme, Del valle, Bomba Gonzalez, C. velazquez, Seda, Pedraza (maybe) and possibly verdejo. Arroyo brothers may get there shot too. Other than that, Im not too sold on nice looking records. El Destroyer was ranked #3 as prospect and #4 is J. velez. Lol.
