  • Mikey Garcia - Juanma Past Statistics

Frequent reader here and thought there might be some interest in fight stats for this weekend's Mikey Garcia bout (and others as soon as i can get them done).

It's a new website, so go easy, it's got a way to go yet. The stats compare previous bouts and their previous bouts, so is a little more in depth than other sites. It's all statistics, with no personal views or any made up rubbish:

    boxstat.co/bout/68784/mikey-garcia-vs-juan-manuel-lopez

Not sure what the linking out rules are here, but can't see anything to say otherwise so i'll guess it's okay. I'm not trying to spam, so remove the post/link if it's not allowed or against any rules, and I'll be on my way . Cheeeaarrs

This is interesting. How do you gather these numbers? Like, their power and ability to take a punch?

Power is done by looking at the people they have stopped, and how quickly, and it takes into account how many times that opponent has been knocked down (or survived against) before and by what quality of opponent.

Ability to take a punch is done in the same sort of way, looking at how many times/speed they have been stopped against what quality of opponent, and how hard that opponent punches etc.

Also takes into account weight differences of the fighters, even though weights can change after the weigh in, it's still a small indicator it seems.

A while to go with it, so any feedback is a huge help and will go towards making things a little better.

It looks pretty nifty. A lot of people might argue with you the ability to take a punch part simply cause Juanma has been stopped and was hurt my Mtagwa. But I'm not all convinced by Mikey's chin either.

Yeah, i think a big part that's missing at the moment for the site is explanations of how things are calculated, so that's my next task.

Currently, the way the calculations are done, Garcia's ability to take a punch is pretty low for his record as he hasn't been stopped yet, but that's based on the fact that his opponents so far have never really been able to hit that hard, or there have been few with power.

I'll hopefully put knockdowns on the records at some point in the future, as W/L/D and result type don't really tell the full story in some cases. Maidana being a good example... without knockdowns he looks unstoppable, but in reality he's been put down and come close to being stopped a few too many times now.

I think Mikey's chin is just a little untested. If it holds up then i think he'll get the win this weekend. Should be a really good fight.

Its definitely untested. Just when Salido started landing on him the fight was stopped. I also didn't like his reaction when Barros landed one of his punches on him.

Anyway, its looking good. It shows some cool stats we don't usually see on Boxrec.

I also noticed under Mayweather how it says hes usually 8% lighter than his opponent or whatever the figure was. Cool stuff.

Thanks. There's so many different statistics to be shown it's hard to know what people want to see most. So if there's anything you/anyone would like to see, let me know and I'll get it added if i can. Appreciate your comments though, makes the hours of p*ss boring data input work a little more bearable ha

I'll look at it with more time when I get to the house and see if I can come up with something.

I like this a lot but can you tell me how you generated/came to this conclusion?

ABILITY TO TAKE A PUNCH 63.5% (Garcia) 79.3% (Juanma)
