Fact or fiction: The catchweight benefits Canelo more than it does Floyd.

At the end of the day the 152lb catchweight benefits Alvarez more than Floyd for the simple fact it will give him (Canelo) an excuse once he loses or looks bad.

FWIW I disagree with Floyd's choice and feel he should just face Canelo at 154, because to me the end result will be the same.

Once Canelo loses....GBP and team Alvarez will immediately use the "I was drained" or "the weight had a huge effect on my performance" excuse.

I really don't blame them because 1) If they win then Canelo shoots to superstardom 2) If he loses, regardless of how bad, they could just say he wasn't himself and not hurt his stock when it comes to future big fights (Cotto fight etc).

I don't think it will make a difference, personally.

I expect both to make the weight well.

Canelos young and it shouldn't be that hard to shed another pound. He just fought less than 2 months ago. And you have to figure he will be working harder than he ever has before because he's facing Mayweather.

This could have been a legacy fight for FLoyd, but instead Floyd wastes it.
Floyd loses either way, cos if Canelo loses he can say he was weight drained, and if Canelo wins, he can say he was able to beat Floyd even with a CW meaning Floyd must have been overated!

Floyd was trying to weaken Canelo and he originally wanted the fight at 147. The 152 was a compromise since Canelo would not agree to go any lower and Floyd would not go any higher. I don't think 152 will help Floyd because I think Canelo will make 152 and be in perfect shape. Canelo is very proud of his ability as a boxer and a fighter. The last thing he is looking for is an excuse if he loses. He is dedicated to beating Mayweather and that is what he intends to do. If Canelo loses I believe he will give Mayweather full credit for the win and never even bring up the 152 catchweight. Some fans may say the catchweight hurt Canelo if he loses this fight.

the catchweight (i.e. having to lose an extra 2 lbs) obviously doesn't benefit canelo, but i still believe he will have the overall advantage at the weight. let's face it, if he was really the same size as floyd, no one would be giving him a snowball's chance in hell.

Even in knowing there would be an outcry that didn't stop Mayweather from demanding it simply because he knew it would make a difference. It's there for a reason, I don't see why that should be ignored. Still, if Canelo didn't rehydrate as much as he did Floyd wouldn't have made his demands, of course it doesn't justify it but that's where his demand stems from. It was Mayweather's camp that raised those concerns which prompt Floyd to make the demand.
