Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Mayweather Insecure, Catchweight Won't Help

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) is feeling a sense of insecurity with the upcoming fight against WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs).

The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 152-pounds. Mayweather had previously fought at the full junior middleweight limit of 154 on two occasions, against De La Hoya in 2007 and last year against Miguel Cotto. Both fights were tough outings for the pound-for-pound king, with Mayweather winning both by way of twelve round decision.

    GBP propaganda

I'm not sure I'd call it insecurity. I think it will indeed help Mayweather in the middle rounds. Oscar is just trying to get around the weight drain argument and sell the fight. The outcome will still be the same. Good ppv numbers and a lot of boos for Mayweather since he's not going to brawl. Cinnamon needs to pressure PBF the same way Angulo pressured Lara but he won't. They rarely do when they get frustrated.

With Oscar parading his cruiserweight around as a 154 pounder, and that circus act against Trout in Texas, maybe Floyd should be a little insecure!! Oh and Oscar did not come close to handing Floyd his first defeat, but his popularity got him a "split decision"

You cant beat Floyd lugging around 172lbs. You have to be lighter to compete with Floyds hand speed. Other wise he wont be able to slip Floyds punches, especially in the later rounds. So Cross Dresser kind of has a point. We all know 152 isn't really going to help Floyd. He's not even the same fighter at 151. It all comes down to if Canelo can make 152 comfortably.

Just don't hire De La Hoya's nutritionist from the Pacquiao fight.

The reason why De La Hoya was successful against Floyd was because Floyd was insecure...specifically coz Oscar was 'the man", the A-side, the cash cow, etc. The jump up to 154 didn't help matters either. But most of all, it was because Oscar was the guy and that made Floyd insecure for the first half of the fight. That's simply not the case anymore...especially now that Floyd was able to secure a catchweight.

Insecure is Oscar dressing as a girl; about the 152lb limit, it is a win for Floyd, he is making Canelo go under the weight class limit. A victory for Canelo will be making Floyd to accept 156lb…

Psychologically, 152 helps Floyd tremendously. RD1 is already in the books.

In the meantime, sell that fight Oscar.

It sounds to me like GBP doesn't really believe Floyd will get past Canelo. Considering after this fight Floyd could potentially walk away from GBP after every fight Oscar sounds like he had to force this fight to happen and genuinely believe Floyd will lose..I don't see why he would be throwing this much shade at Floyd if they believe he stood a shot of winning.
