Comments Thread For: Maidana in Line For The Broner vs. Malignaggi Winner

CARSON, Calif. – In a Fight of The Year candidate Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s), of Margarita, Argentina, capped a spectacular night of fights with a sixth-round technical knockout win over “The Riverside Rocky’’ Josesito Lopez (30-6, 18 KO’s) of Riverside, Calif., before a loud and raucous record sell-out crowd of 8,629 at the Home Depot Center Saturday in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event live on SHOWTIME®.

In a tremendous all-action slugfest in the semi-main that preceded Maidana-Lopez, Cuban Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) of Houston, Texas, overcame two knockdowns to capture the vacant WBA Interim Super Welterweight World Championship with an exciting 10th-round technical knockout of Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) of Los Angeles. In the opening bout of the telecast, undefeated Jermell Charlo (21-0, 10 KO’s), of Houston, registered a close, unanimous 12-round decision win over Demetrius Hopkins (33-3-1, 13 KO’s) of Philadelphia, Pa. The tactical match was scored 115-13 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Yes! Please, that would be fantastic. Maidana kills Malinaggi, and a Broner fight would be great.. I'll hold on that prediction until we see how he does against Malinaggi.

Maidana was an animal tonight, but he's practically made for Broner. He's struggled with every skilled boxer he's fought.

Still, it's a good match to make, and one I would be pleasantly surprised to see Broner take up. Chino looked as good as he had against Ortiz years ago and he'd be a real risk for The Problem. A win over him would give Broner a lot of credibility at welterweight.

GBP really deserve credit with the fights they are putting on and then the fights they are projecting for the future, you really can't complain as a boxing fan, they are not marinating anything even though they could if they want. I would definitely love to see Maidana against the winner of this fight.

It's an okay fight. I like it. Much better than Broner vs Reukusenszenken that's for sure.

Maidana, Lopez, Matthysse, Garcia, Broner, Berto, Ortiz, Guerrero, Alexander, Malignaggi, Peterson, Khan...

Man, these guys will never run out of fights. Yet GBP has to pick from outside of this group for an opponent. Last fights of Broner, Khan, Alexander, Malignaggi were outside of this group. Berto's next fight is not in the list.

Loser can fight a loser... Lopez vs Peterson, for example, Ortiz vs Guerrero, etc.

yeah that is some bull but you know "why" they did this...so Broner can easily get a belt @ 147 and GBP can market him better with easy work lined up for him the next years (Maidana, Guerrero, Ortiz) so when Mayweather retires they can sell him as the next "MoneyMay" (which is also easier when he KOs some opponents May didnt KO - look at the May - Pac history and what casuals said "oh Pac is way better cause he KOd Hoya and Hatton faster than May etc.")
