Lara had a plan on the inside: shell up, stay calm/patient and counter. He blocked/slipped/countered a lot, but was having a tough time getting Perro's respect. I think Lara had the right idea by using movement to keep Angulo off balance, but it was at the expense of his own offense. He absorbed numerous left hooks to the body on the ropes and the shell was beginning to lose its effectiveness. He got KD when trying to counter, so he began using his legs more. Lara's notable mistakes were not clinching enough, and not throwing enough to the body. Angulo is the kind of fighter that has a hit-me sign on his face, so it's easy to get fooled into head-hunting against him.Last edited by kiaba360; 06-09-2013, 03:27 PM.

He should tie up Perro every time he got close, but the "critics" would buried him here, finally he is in a war with one of the bigger punchers of the 54's, came on top and still he is not good enough, I think el perro fought his best fight ever, he knew what was on the table and went all out, I haven't see him in this conditions in years and he had 10 pounds over Lara that is no joke, Dominicano you do criticize the Cuban boxers more than any other, I'll tell you this seems you think I'm being emotional, La Republica Dominicana a tenido tremenda suerte porque triunfo la Revolucion, you guys should send Castro some flowers...

It's not only his inability to fight in close, even Ouma lit Vanes up with combinations and looked better than Lara in spots. I think Lara needs to add more to his arsenal to replicate the hype he gets on here. You also added that he controls distance well, controls the pace, but that isn't entirely true, Angulo pretty much forced him to fight at a greater pace, as did Molina and again it all stems down to his inability to fight at close quarters. It's hard to rate Lara, or Molina due to all the shenanigans he went through, and I still feel Cotto is a top contender in the division. 154 is unorganized right now...
Guess what, Ouma is a pressure fighter and can fight inside... and fought a great fight against Vanes as well. Lara to me didn't seemed troubled by Vanes at all in their contest where as he was pushed to the brink against Angulo. Styles make fights and yes, Lara may have struggled, but he dominated the fight, even if he had to expend more energy.
Again, I completely agree with you in that his inside game isn't there, but this wasn't the fight where you test your inside game if it's not solid already. He still took some risks, though, and fought both his and Angulo's type of fight. I can't say a guy is overrated because he's able to do that. It's not like he was on his bike all night from opening bell like Cintron.

He did good against Trout, now he needs to follow that up.

After watching this fight, it is now obvious to me who Saul Alvarez's next opponent will be after he gets schooled by Mayweather. It will be Alfredo Angulo, the loser of this fight.

Some just have to find a reason. A boxer's lack of ability to fight inside with a brawler was seems to be the popular pick here.

Angulo came charging forward in the first round, and Lara was douing well with hard counters right on the button. Lara was doing well with picking Angulo off - until the fourth round, when Angulo caugh the Cuban boxer with a monster shot that sent him crashing. Lara was hurt and using every bit of his defensive talents to make it out of the round.
