Comments Thread For: Virgil Hunter: We Know What to Expect from Lara

Virgil Hunter, trainer of Alfredo Angulo, spoke to BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com about his fighter’s upcoming matchup with Erislandy Lara for an interim 154-pound title belt this Saturday in Carson, Calif.

This weekend marks Angulo’s third fight with Hunter following a highly publicized seven-month ordeal in a Southern California immigration detention center.

“He’s the type of guy you would go to war with,” Hunter said of Angulo. “With everything he’s been through and the way he’s handled it all, he has nothing but my admiration and respect.” [Click Here To Read More]

Just wanted to quickly point out that that 'cuban amateur system' skyrocketed Rigondeaux to greatness.

    I'm not saying Lara wins.

I'm just saying that's a weak way of looking at things.

Hunter: "We know what to expect from Lara."

Lara: "And there ain't a damn thing you can do about it."

Even Carl Froch who's a SMW got better all around speed than Angulo. Just hope Lara impresses, no reason why he shouldn't.

I see El Perro's right eye very swollen after this one....after the fight settles in a bit Lara's straight left will begin to prevail....Lara would blaze Kirkland too. Good night of fights tnight

You can't mess with Lara unless you've got some speed and/or skills. Guys like Angulo and Kirkland aren't up to the task.

Lara is good, but he does not handle pressure all that well - Perro has a on the fly thinker in his corner who can help him with the adjustments, and he applies pressure very well with cutting off the ring and digging to the body - we might be in for a shocker 2nite . this is Angulo's third fight with hunter so they have been together for over a year, this is when we should be able to notice any changes / additions to his repertoire. Styles make fights and all Kirkland did to Perro was out beast him - Lara is not that type of fighter, we have seen Perro get out boxed (Cintron), but the boxers in Hunter's stable (Khan / karim Mayfield / berto / etc) have been sparring Angulo (showing him different looks along with hunter's tutelage - good fight 2nite guys.

Another Hunter fighter bout to get his ass whupped. Angulo does not come across as an intelligent fighter and he's very slow. A guy with Lara's experience and talent shouldn't be losing to Angulo.
