Comments Thread For: Maidana: Lopez Had No Business at 154 With Canelo

Josesito Lopez lost by technical knockout for the first time in his 10-year pro career when he fought Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but he has taken positives away from the experience other than a career-high purse of $212,500.

By moving up to 154 pounds for the first time, Lopez’s body grew accustomed to maintaining more weight during training camp. That has helped the Riverside, Calif., native as he has prepared for another big welterweight fight against Marcos Maidana.

Lopez (30-5, 18 KOs, 1 NC) and Argentina’s Maidana (33-3, 30 KOs) will square off June 8 at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Their 12-round fight for the WBA’s Intercontinental 147-pound championship will headline a Showtime tripleheader. [Click Here To Read More]

LOL! No business? He had "big business($$$)" at 154.

    Same as YOU wanted, Maidana!

everybody involved in lopez' fight with canelo knew that...

schaefer showed genuine embarrassment and regard for lopez after the fight telling him he'd do anything to further aid his career despite not being his promoter...something I've rarely seen a rival promoter do

Agreed. 147 is a big weight class for Lopez.

Maidana is not dumb, there is a clip on youtube where someone asks him about facing Canelo and he said dude was too big for him - Maidana looked very good against karass, head movement, setting up power shots behind the jab, and better footwork, and last but not least - patience - he is a true student of the game, trying to shed the brawler stigma.

schaefer is being cruel in giving him Maidana after that horrible beating. Lopez could get another beating on Saturday. Couldn't they have given him an easier fight.

I completely agree with Chino. Part of the reason why I see Lopez taking another beating on Saturday.
