What's funny about Garcia-Matthyse is that Danny is being forced into the fight

I'll have a lot of respect for Garcia if he marches with pride towards his impending doom, and goes out trying to stop Matthysse, trying to halt the beast, trying to escape his untimely demise and turn the tables.

He won't stop the machine, the machine cannot be stopped. Garcia will go down valiantly with pride at the realisation he can say 'I tried' many years from now when he looks back on the battle and sacrifice through the eyes of renewed wisdom and understanding.

He's like the surrounded and broken soldier who runs at the machine-gun nest with a grenade and ultimately fails in his noble effort to do something, anything.

I think it's pretty darn obvious Danny doesn't want the fight. I don't blame him in a way - we exist in a boxing world where you can dine out on a good win (Khan) and a belt for a heck of a lot of fights, before you finally take the big money fight. I'm sure Team Garcia would have loved a 5/6 more Morales/Judah type showcases for Danny, before leading to a Mayweather shot.

But the problem is - Lucas has the same promoter, the same manager. And the Mayweather sweepstakes has distorted picture somewhat too - meaning these guys gotta beat each other to justify a shot at Mayweather. And now you've got Schaeffer telling everyone this fight is sure to be made. Looks like they're finally giving Lucas the attention they've been giving Danny since the Khan win.

So now you've gotta a situation where Danny really doesn't want the Lucas fight, not right now anyway. It's so risky, and let's face it, Matthyse is the favourite (though personally, I think Garcia makes it a competitive, and ultimately fantastic, fight).

Danny has been living it up as a boxing superstar since Khan. And now it's like....sh-t. They gotta go into this fight where his own promoters are calling the other guy the new Manny Pacquiao.

Look at Peter Quillen. He's got his own version of Matthyse in Golovkin. But Golovkin isn't under the GBP banner and isn't managed by Al Haymon. So Kid Chocolate can go around telling us all about how much of an animal he is - but that GGG needs to build his name up. And he can get away with that.

But Garcia?

Nah, he's gotta fight Lucas. He can't slip out of this one.

Excellent, excellent post. I agree wholeheartedly. I especially like the comparison to Danny --> Lucas and Quillin --> GGG because I've felt the same way. The "stars" in those two fights don't want to fight their predecessors whatsoever, though Quillin already admitted he wants no part of GGG.

And I called it from the start, you can tell by Danny's body language and what he says when Lucas is brought up he's not comfortable. He doesn't want the fight.

lucas is danny's margarito. if he doesn't fight him everyone will call him a coward for the rest of his career/life. if he finds some journeyman from argentina to fight instead it will be even worse. if he says we aren't fighting to prove who's best it will be worse still. thank god that would never happen in boxing.

Where do people come off thinking Danny is B!tchmade? That guy has always said that he'd fight Lucas. He's going to fight Lucas, he's going to beat his ass and win, and then everyone will say that Lucas is overrated.

And don't get it twisted, he's a good fighter, but c'mon, losing to washed up Zab and Alexander? I was impressed with the Peterson win, but its getting out of control

anyone who thinks danny wants the fight is nuts. Any time its mentioned to him he studders, shakes, and has a really uncomfortable response. Then his dad said they are not part of the tournament... what a bunch of cowards. Then his face after the Peterson KO you could see how horrified he was, and out of discomfort he did an awkward point to himself saying hes the best.... haha ya right, we will find out whose the best danny after Lucas KO's your ass

lol @ everyone thinking Matthysse has "proven himself"! Lamont didn't look like the Lamont Peterson we saw in his last 2 fights at all. In fact, he looked sick before the fight. You could see in his body language that he was clearly drained. As for the rest of his resume.. Dallas Jr is Lopez's leftovers. Devon was coming off a loss and still managed to outbox him. Zab gave him a boxing lesson. And the rest of his record is filled with feather-fisted dudes with glass jaws.

BTW I don't know where all this "Danny is running" **** could possibly be coming from. Ah well, whatever fuels "the new Pacquiao's" hype train.. It will be derailed by Danny.
