Bernd Boente, manager of WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KOs), advised BoxingScene.com that there are "many issues" still oustanding with respect to a mandatory fight with Alexander Povetkin (26-0, 18 KOs). The fight is scheduled for October 5th in Moscow, Russia.

The two sides have until June 7th to finalize the fight per the regulations of the WBA. Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov won the WBA's purse bid with a financial figure of $23 million dollars figure. According to the WBA's split, Klitschko stands to receive $17 million dollars of that amount. [Click Here To Read More]

Something was always fishy with that helluva purse.

Wouldn't be surprised if the fight is cancelled.

If I was too look at both Wladimir and Sasha, I would only think one of them has ever experimented with performance enhancing drugs. Like brother like brother.

Vitali or Wladimir being su****ious should not be the focus of conversation in this topic. Rather it should be the Russian doping agency and the Russians in general.

They've got to be itching to do whatever it takes to beat a Ukrainian on their home turf. Foul play like setting up false results of positive drug test results should not be ruled out. Tampering with scorecards; and all kinds of other ****.

Agreed. If I'm Team Klitschko, I make absolute sure everything is on the up and up. Klitschko is the super champion. He is the name. He can make big money very easily with or without Povetkin.

Vitali prescribed a non-anabolic steroid to treat a foot injury prior to the olympics and it was found in his system and he wasn't allowed to compete. He has never been found positive since for anything including his brother. They have both been big in shape specimens their whole adult lives.

Yep, especially considering the insane purse. Why would these guys put down so much money for their guy to lose in his hometown?

Hryunov already stated NADA can do the testing they just want the samples also sent to RUSADA. Klitschko's are the worst fighters to negotiate with in the sport they want everything set up their way. You don't walk away froma $17 million purse over something so trivial, no homefield advantage and maybe a ref that will actually enforce the rules and stop the holding has them walking away IMO.

Why does Russian billionaires like Abramovich lose 100s of millions buying players for Chelsea football club? Because they can.
