Yeah or perhaps Muhammad Ali will come out of retirement for one last hurrah.

There's about the same possibility of that happening.

As long as Vitali isn't retired, it's the fight to make in the division. Simple as that.

His withdrawal from the Charr fight was due to poor ticket sales, not some dubious hand injury.

      This guy is a phoney.
He had medical reports backing it up.

The thing that changed his mind is probably that Fury has turned on his stance and Haye will probably fight him on Skybox office making 5 times as much as fighting Charr on Sky.

Stranger things have happened before. Like Wlad backing out of the Chisora fight twice, second time for a payday.

Now that would be a true mega-fight, too bad we'll never see it. There are few attention grabbing matchups in the heavyweight division and none that would garner worldwide attention and PPV dollars. The average USA boxing fan couldn't care less about a Vitali vs Haye fight. Maybe Europeans would. This division definitely needs some new blood.

The average American boxing fan hardly knows who the klitschkos or David Haye are, so of course they wouldn't care.

If Haye-Vitali happens you can bet your mother that HBO or showtime will pick it up though. Even though almost all the klitschko or Haye fights they've shown have been stinkers.

Not necessarily, LacedUp. I think it would depend a lot upon the location (time zone) of the fight, price, fan interest, and available HBO/Showtime scheduling dates. For example, here in the Western part of the USA, the live feed of the Froch/Kessler fight was broadcast on a Saturday afternoon at 3 PM. There was some interest in that fight because it was an intriguing rematch of a very competitive fight originally shown on Showtime from the Super-Six tournament. It was a good fight and I enjoyed it, although many casual fight fans were outdoors doing other things when it was shown. Not a good thing for HBO.

HBO didn't even bother with the undercard because most folks weren't sitting in front of their television sets at 1 PM on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It is, as you very well know, all about the bucks with the pay networks. If the fight were a part of 'boxing after dark', or another prime time showing, they might have some interest if a fair price (to the network)) could be negotiated. That would probably mean that it would have to take place somewhere in the States. But, as you said yourself, the casual USA boxing fan is not really interested in, or cares about either Vitali or David Haye.

Haye is waiting until Vitali needs a walker to get in the ring.

                  Great post.

Haye is a joke in the HW division.

LOL @ people taking a dig at Haye the fight would have happened already this year if Vitali didn't wait for a fight that will make him atleast 3x less money. It was confirmed weeks ago with the hand injury (if you believe it or not) that he wouldn't be fighting until the autumn so it's hardly surprising that he won't be fighting until 2014 afterwards. A win over Fury will put him in the top 3 of almost every org so it works out better for him than a Charr fight anyway.

Then again, the "average" American boxing fan is an idiot....

How were Wlad's brutal KO of Calvin Brock, Vitali's great fight with Lewis, his destruction of Kirk Johnson and his spanking of Cris "Crybaby" Arreola stinkers?

Even Haye's KO of Chisora was a good fight to watch -- both men got rocked.

Guess they'd rather watch another Mayweather snorefest instead. At least the K-Bros and Haye usually knock people out.
