Do you reckon Perez will beat Gamboa?

After the lay off & everything I actually was a bit stumped as to why they (50) put Gamboa in with Michael Farenas (a virtual unknown that is very underrated, very dangerous in a fight he'd receive no credit for) Nobody gave Farenas a shot but anybody who'd seen him fight knew he was always in shape, very awkward & hits like a mac truck.

Forward a year! Here we are again.
Now Gamboa is moving up another two divisions to face a good size lightweight in Canada. Another fight that offers no real reward and on paper looks a very ballsy move if you ask me.

I don't know an awful lot about Perez but he appears to of got a close nod against Mamadjonov who is a pretty good fighter that just beat the highly regarded Cuban prospect Angelo Santana. I haven't seen much of Perez but he don't look no mug to me.

Not broke them down or anything but this looks like some horrific matchmaking and absolutely nothing but high risk, low reward.

2 divisions up after a year lay off against a 28-0 contender who is big, skilled, certainly knows his way around the ring & has some decent power. Just a ******ly dangerous move. As skilled as Gamboa is I'm almost disgusted at how hes being handled.

It's not 2 divisions, Farenas was at SFW. And lets remember he was gonna move up to LW for Rios way back and got lots of plaudits.

Another poster said Perez looked like **** recently against a scrub and got dropped once or twice. Otherwise he's nothing special, but he's a lot bigger than Gamboa. Baha outboxed him, but he was able to impose his size in stretches, mostly when opponent tired. Gamboa is a lot better, but he's yet smaller, and has a chin question.

Eh Gamboa gets dropped because he is reckless but has yet to be hurt he doesn't have the Khan chin problem so he probably will box this kids ears off and if the K.O comes he will take it or try to do it too soon and get dropped going crazy XD it's the first lightweight bout and all, we'll see how he looks, i agree SMS is doing a complete **** job putting him in with high risk no reward fighters After more than a year lay off they put him in with Farenas dude with some some heavy hands that is underrated who is pretty good.

If you're facing someone Good you want to at least get something out of it, i thought he won the interim blablabla super feather weight belt would have rather he stayed there 1 more fight and go get that Uchiyama belt which Farenas was on the way to winning btw before a teq draw.

I just lost all faith with his promotional company this inactivity and crappy Opponent selections not to mention if i didn't follow his career i probably wouldn't even know he fights saturday .... What's the point to even fighting at lightweight now to begin with if they where chasing Broner he moved up 2 faking weight classes more now most of the good stuff is at 126-130

Some good points, Dan. I'm not crazy about the move to 135 to begin with, but I have a lot of faith in Yuri. I think the only fighters to worry about are the top guys. I don't know very much about Perez myself, but I'm not concerned about him. Perhaps the worst thing about the whole Gamboa situation is the inactivity. He's a tremendous fighter, but lack of work can really dull the blade.

When Gamboa had his issues with Top Rank, I thought maybe he was making a good move by leaving. I had a "wait-and-see" attitude about the situation. It was early on in the game and too soon to tell how things would turn out. Well, here were are, almost two years later, and it looks like Yuri made a bad move. Gamboa is a tremendous talent whose shelf-life is evaporating before our eyes. His best years are being squandered. It's a damn shame.

Check out his amateur record. It's no Gamboa, but it's better than any Gamboa pro opponents so far, by a whole lot.

It really is a shame. I was VERY high on Gamboa. Now, he looks to be wasting away.
