Comments Thread For: Froch-Kessler 2 Airings Get About 1.1 Million Viewers

The enjoyable rematch between super middleweights Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler drew nearly 1.1 million combined viewers in its two airings on HBO this past Saturday, according to a network news release.

The live showing of the bout from London’s O2 Arena at 6 p.m. Eastern Time pulled in 493,000 viewers, while the replay at 10 p.m. added 577,000 viewers, for a total of 1,070,000 viewers.

That is less than what HBO cards have typically been bringing in of late. Earlier this year, HBO’s Kery Davis said the network’s boxing broadcasts get 1.2 million viewers on average, according to an article by Michael Woods of TheSweetScience.com. [Click Here To Read More]

To be fair to them it was on during the day in North America, and the big UEFA cup finals was on around the same time.

These ratings are actually pretty good considering who was fighting and the times. Half of the guys on HBO wish they could pull this much. Someone like Donaire for example. He doesn't break 1M all the time.

          still decent #s

Especially considering the holiday & the combatants! And if the naysayers are correct, better than floyd/guerrero too!

Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson did 1.3M viewers on HBO.

Froch vs. Kessler was shown twice and only had 1.07M viewers on HBO.

I think Froch needs to try some humble pie.

Oh yeah, and then there is this...

                Very nice.

How can anyone blame the times on this when it was shown in the afternoon and again in the primetime slot?

Any boxing fan with something going on at one time or another still had a chance to watch it.

ward v dawson was a bigger fight mainly for americans, 2 americans in usa, the 2 regarded as best in their divisions fighting. That's no surprise they got more viewers than 2 europeans, regarded 2 and 3 in the division fighting a rematch in england.

Those are pretty good numbers, and for those comparing Ward vs Dawson with Froch vs Kessler 2 just ask yourselves what kind of numbers would Dawson and Ward do in Europe?
