Those headbutts were not intentional, Ward simply closed the distance and clinched often to nullify Kessler's offense, Kessler couldn't do much to Ward between those headbutts, if he could he wouldn't have lost by wide technical decision.

IMO in Denmark he would have been disqualified.

        Who else agrees?
I agree 100%. With a fair and honest referee, Ward would have been disqualified.

Yes, it was an absolute disgrace. I give credit to Ward for most of his wins (Froch, Abraham, Bika although it was close) but this fight was just absurd. Kessler had some massive cuts, all caused by headbutts, and the ref did absolutely nothing.

This isn't about "hating" Ward or stuff like that, but it's pretty clear that the referee in this fight was pathetic.

They can't. There are too few of their countrymen to root for at that level of the sport for them to be able to get past the denial stage easily or quickly.

That said if it was in Denmark it might well have gone down differently. I can't remember if he was warned in the Kessler fight but he would have definitely been warned in Denmark and possibly had a point deducted and with both the excessive clinching and leading with the head, he could definitely have been DQ'd in Denmark.
He wasn't warned. The perverted thing about it, was that it was Kessler who was told by the ref. that he was about to be DQ'ed.

That was the single worst referee performance in the last decade.

If the referee was firm Ward would have had to cut the dirty stuff out or at best reduce it. He got away with it because the referee allowed it. If he was in Denmark with a firm referee he would have fought a different fight.

I don't recall Ward getting a single warning. Kessler's face was sliced to bits in that fight. A couple of warnings and a point deduction would have been enough to change the way the fight played out. I don't think Kessler would have won but Ward would of had to find another way other than using the head to win.

Was terrible reffing in my opinion.
