  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Ward Has No Choice, Must Face Froch in UK

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom says Andre Ward, recognized as the top fighter at super middleweight, has must to come to the UK to fight Carl Froch in a rematch. Ward won a twelve round decision over Froch when they fought in December of 2011 in Atlantic City. Ward was part of HBO's broadcast team on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, and saw Froch get revenge over Mikkel Kessler with a twelve round unanimous decision. In the opinion of Hearn, Ward's back is against the wall and he doesn't have much of a choice in terms of where the rematch would take place.

lol I would love to go see this but it is quite a trip.

And Ward does not have to do ****. HE is the boss right now. It is not his loss needing redemption.

Totally agree the fight should be in the UK. However. Hearn must understand that kind of condescending public overtone might be off-putting to Ward. Team Froch don't seem crazy about this matchup.

i hope hearns doesnt rile up ward with that 'no option' bull.
i hope theres big enough money over there to entice ward. froch needs to be at home for this one.
think it will be a different fight than first. but outcome the same.

Seems to me like Froch and his team don't really want this fight with Ward. Seems like they're trying to put off Ward by telling him that he HAS to and he has NO OPTIONS. Ward is probably #2 on the P4P list and he also beat Froch already so I'd say Ward is in the drivers seat right now. They're lucky Ward is humble because if it was Floyd Mayweather he'd tell them to go f themselves.

Froch faced Ward in the US already, he conceded home country advantage for the Super Six Final.. Ward has got to go over to the UK for the rematch, it pretty much goes without saying. If Ward can't go over it speaks volume for his character, he has been criticized for being a hometown whore for years now.. everyone views him as one.. if he wants to remove that label this is the perfect way to do it, and the perfect fight. Ward should go ahead and make it happen for the sake of his career and crumbling reputation.

The more I think about this the more I'm certain they don't want to fight Ward or Hopkins.

Froch's going on about 4 more fights, his next loss as he's alluded to himself will be his last fight. There's a strong possibility if he faces Ward or Hopkins next that he'll lose, this is why there is no chance he really wants the fights.

Ward doesn't have to avenge the loss, his legacy is just fine right now. Froch's is not.

Froch is 36 Ward isn't in his 30's yet, Ward can stay in Oakland or America and defend his title for the next 2/3 years against contender's and mandatory's and pick himself up a nice few quid in the process whilst he wait for the new guys coming through to establish themselves.

If Hearn truely wants the fight his tactics of insult Ward and tell him we hold the cards, call the shots, is going completely the wrong way and isn't going to do anything except make Ward walk away from the table, and that seems what they want i.e. an excuse to not make the fight. A guy like Ward in his position isn't going to be dictated to like that.

With all this 'it has to be at home nonsense' - it is funny how they're not twittering Hopkins name to come to the table, if they can't agree a fight with Ward, who has already been on record will come to the UK and do a catchweight.

That tells me that they want neither guy, this 'it has to be at home' is a smokescreen, and we can look forward to Goerge Groves next and then DeGale.

Let's be honest, Ward don't have to do ****.

He's more than content fighting in Oakland in front of two men and a dog.

You can sort of see his point of view though. He's the MAN at SMW, why should he have to travel?

He'd get mad respect from me if he fought Carl over here. Can't see it though.
