  • Comments Thread For: Sauerland: Andre Ward Has To Travel Like Froch, Kessler

Mikkel Kessler won’t have to go far to call out Andre Ward if he defeats Carl Froch in their rematch Saturday night in London.

Ward will be seated ringside at O2 Arena, where he’ll call the fight for HBO.

Kessler clearly wants another shot at the undefeated Ward, who beat Kessler by technical decision 3½ years ago in Oakland, Calif. The Danish star still stayed away from talking about a Ward rematch while discussing the Froch rematch on a recent conference call.

“No, I don’t think about Ward at all,” Kessler said. “I want to think about Carl, you know? He’s the kind of fighter who wants to fight.” [Click Here To Read More]

Saureland is right about one thing. A Ward vs Kessler fight would do more at the gate in Denmark than in the US, but we all know TV money is what drives things. Will HBO pay for a fight in Europe let alone Denmark? But I do agree its high time Andre got on a plane and defended the consensus/TBRB #1 spot oversees. He has fought oversees before, but in order to silence the naysayers its time to defend in hostile territory.

In case Kessler beats Froch, Sauerland could set up a big event in Germany for Kessie vs Ward...
But (look out!) Ward asks for about $7 mln to cross the pond (he already asked Hearn for such an amount)......

Before people say "he doesn't have to travel, he's champion" - he won all his fights in the States while his opponents were travelling around the world fighting.

I don't agree with Sauerland too often but they're spot-on with this, Ward short-changed the Super 6 for the fans with his venue b/s.

Froch, Kessler, Taylor, Dirrell, Abraham and Johnson all left their own country during the Super 6 and both Green and Bute did after the tournament. Ward's the odd one out here and he ain't no draw.

Eventually Ward has to fight someone, somewhere -- but he needs to fight for big purses, as the Super Six provided him with the #2 or #1 P4P status, but no money whatsoever...

I agree 100%. That's why I can't get on the Ward hype train. Even his fight with Froch being on the East coast is not the same as the advantage he got from fighting Kessler and others in Cali. I liked Ward before the Kessler fight but that was one of the dirtiest fights I have ever seen and it turned me off to Ward big time. If Ward wants big purses he must go over there and fight or these guys will just be content to fight each other and make all the money. Ward has to stop calling out the guys below him like GGG, JCC and Floyd and take some real chances or he is gonna end up like Chris John or someone.

A candid Kessler was literally stunned by the refereeing manner in the Ward fight... It was beyond Kessie comprehension what the ref did in that night...

(This with Chris John is a good one)...
