My opinion is that the one person who ought to decide if Shane Mosley should fight on, is, well... Shane Mosley. Just because some people think he's not what he used to be doesn't make it someone else's decision to let him continue. And even if he loses his next 100 fights doesn't mean he wasn't still at a high-end level during his prime. That reality doesn't change, regardless of who he loses to from here on out.

Just like I said... Ali lost to Berbick, Leonard lost to Camacho and Chavez lost to Wiley... but the cheers for them when they're introduced at fights aren't any less enthusiastic, and the great wins they had in their primes are in no way tarnished. For people to decide they can arbitrarily decide whose legacies remain in tact and whose get tarnished seems a little self-important to me. Shane's 41 and can still beat 95 percent of the pros out there. If that's good enough for him, who cares if it's good enough for anyone else.
This,Mosley is a HOF and most will cry when he's inducted..It's really nothing you can say to a dude as accomplished as Mosley..

      An accident?

Hey man. Was that an accident? Copying and pasting my entire post? Just asking.

As for Tito vs. Mosley never happening; Mosley had a chance to fight Tito before he signed to fight Wright and turned the fight down. His Daddy told him to fight Tito and not Wright because Wright would be too difficult style-wise. Mosley didn't like that his Daddy had doubts about him losing and decided to fight Wright just to prove him wrong. Well, looks like father knew best. Tito would have beaten him anyway and most likely by KO or TKO. Nobody was going twelve with a 147lb version of Tito. Mosley got hit too much and that spells disaster against a precise, accurate, and quick fighter like Tito.

You've just disqualified a ton of great boxers if we take your interpretation of a legend into account.

          Mabe so.

Mabe so. We are talking about Shane here though. However, if you are in your prime and you lose to the same fighter twice, you are not a legend. The term is used too loosely nowadays. They word is for a selected few.

If it was just an issue of fans thinking he should retire to save his resume then we would be in agreement. I have no issues with a fighter carrying on past his best in terms of what it would do to his legacy. 'Cause like you say, past achievements can't be taken away.

That's far from being the only issue that fans have with regard to Shane continuing to fight on. There's a lot of concern for his health, with is valid. My primary concern however isn't about his legacy or his health as such.

I feel that he's further tarnishing his reputation with the manner in which he's continuing to fight on. His reputation was already on shaky ground after he admitted injecting EPO. Some fans have given him a pass on that one.

After his early success, he made no attempt to win the fight with Mayweather. He's not the only one though. Then he did the same in the Pacquiao fight. Roach condemned him for not trying to win and only fighting for a paycheck. He would have quit on his stool if it wasn't for Richardson. Afterwards when ask what his coming thoughts would be on his future he said with a wry smile, "Vacation, relaxation and enjoying the fruits of my labour". A lot of fans give him a pass on that as well, not wanting to begrudge the man a heavy paycheck at the end of his career.

After two losses and a draw he then gets a shot at the WBC title. So now he's starting to epitomise what's wrong with the sport. He looked like he left it all in the ring against Canelo so at least he'd bow out actually fighting for his final-final big payday.

No. Three loses and a draw now warrant a shot a the WBC international title. And now Schaefer and Mosley are proclaiming that he's back! Which no doubt means another big money title-shot pay-day for a man that doesn't necessarily deserve it but has friends in high places.

I have no issues with him continuing to fight. I do have an issue however with him packaging himself as relevant and continuing to take fans money for fights that he has no intention of attempting to win. We've given him two big pay-days at the 'end' of his career. How many more does he want to try and bleed out of us?

So Mosley has been linked with fights with Broner, winner of Maidana/Lopez, winner of Thurman/Chavez or winner of Berto/Karras.

How does he get on with those fighters?.
