I understand that you have constraints as a writer but you can do better than this. It comes across as a Mosley fan's ill thought out opinion piece that you've spat out to fill space.
You're deriding fan's opinions without giving any real consideration as to how and why those opinions are being formed.
People are free to have any opinion they choose. As am I.
My opinion is that the one person who ought to decide if Shane Mosley should fight on, is, well... Shane Mosley. Just because some people think he's not what he used to be doesn't make it someone else's decision to let him continue. And even if he loses his next 100 fights doesn't mean he wasn't still at a high-end level during his prime. That reality doesn't change, regardless of who he loses to from here on out.
Just like I said... Ali lost to Berbick, Leonard lost to Camacho and Chavez lost to Wiley... but the cheers for them when they're introduced at fights aren't any less enthusiastic, and the great wins they had in their primes are in no way tarnished. For people to decide they can arbitrarily decide whose legacies remain in tact and whose get tarnished seems a little self-important to me. Shane's 41 and can still beat 95 percent of the pros out there. If that's good enough for him, who cares if it's good enough for anyone else.
But as long as he's physically able to keep going – and grown man enough to decide to do so – I can't for the life of me understand why it's as bad, sad and tragic as the teary-eyed, quick-to-eulogize Twitter set would have had you believe over the weekend.
By Lyle Fitzsimmons - I’d love to just give her the 10 bucks back.
If it were at all possible, I’d drop a crisp Alexander Hamilton in an envelope, address it
Shane Mosley can also do what Hopkins is doing, still fighting over 40!
He should be line up against Floyd Jr. give him a rematch...its all about money!
Shane is a mere hall of famer in my eyes. He's no legend. You can't lose to the same fighter twice in your prime and be a legend. Sorry. He lost to Forrest twice and Wright twice for the exact same reasons. He was a power dummy. My case In point is the rematch with Oscar. Oscar made him look ****** for most of the fight. The only reason why he won the first encounter, which was close, is because Oscar was pissed after the Trinidad decision and decided to stand flat-footed for twelve rounds. Give me a break with all these modern day legend talks. The word is for a selected few and not for every fighter just 'cause. He fought anyone they put in front of him and he knew what it took to be great, he just didn't have all of the tools when he needed them. His best wins were against Oscar and Cheeto. Outside of those fights, people forget that he lost his most important encounters against Forrest and Wright.
U r on point. Oscar had promised 4 knockouts that year he had the first with a dude named Corley then it was Shane. His game plan was to simply stay there and ****. Mosley is probably the most over rated fighter in boxing history.
Muhammad Ali lost to Trevor Berbick, but his plaque still says “The Greatest.”
And he has Parkinsons to prove it.
Would have thought health would have come up at least once in this article, but nope. This is probably the main argument the "teary-eyed, quick-to-eulogize Twitter set" bring up that think it's sad and tragic that Mosley is coming back at 41 years of age. Should be worth addressing instead of ignoring it.

The other couple main reasons people don't want to see him continue fighting are
He'll take up valuable premium TV spots that should belong to other more deserving fighters.
He'll take up the time of young elite fighters that shouldn't be fighting old faded fighters.
I fully predicted Mosley would beat Cano. And you're right that Mosley would beat 99% active fighters. The problem is that he didn't come back to fight that 99%. He came back to fight the 1%, and Schaefer said as much that he's going to get that chance against a title holder next. I certainly have a huge problem with that. What he thinks is good enough for him be dammed. I expect zero complaints from you when he fights Broner next.
