  • Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Relinquishes The WBC Emeritus Title

After careful thought and consideration with my family and team, I have decided to relinquish my WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Emeritus Title. As has been recently reported, the WBC elected to strip me of my world title belt, making the upcoming bout between Sakio Bika and Marco AntonioPeriban for the vacant Super Middleweight Title. After consultation with my manager James Prince and attorney Josh Dubin, it is my belief that the WBC did not have the right to strip me of my World Title and name me Champion Emeritus. We voiced our position to the WBC, and after several discussions, have agreed to disagree with their interpretation of the facts and rules. In our opinion, we feel strongly that I did not violate the rules in any manner whatsoever.

Good statement, Ward is a classy guy. Not sure many people take the WBC seriously anymore.

Well done to Ward its getting ridiculous how often the wbc have stripped world champions then had mexicans fight for the vacant title.

That's nothing to the "real" pfp king. Brush dat off. cause he'll be back, healthy and ready to dominate.

Awesome stuff by Andre. I wish all the fighters who hold straps for the WBC and WBA would do the same.

They can keep the IBF as it is the only one left with 1 belt per weight class. They are the least evil of the 3.
