Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer tells BoxingScene.com that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) will reveal his plans for September 14th in the next few weeks.

Schaefer is currently working behind the scenes to make a fight between Mayweather and WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs). Schaefer is keeping the status of those discussions under wraps and won't reveal the names in the running to face Mayweather. But he does expect an announcement in the new few weeks because everyone will have to get the ball rolling on the marketing and promotion of the September show.

true but my train of that is, who else can he fight that would do better numbers? after the guerrero flop, he needs a big fight. canelo is the guy but i don't think he's gonna do it. i'm guessing cotto.

If Floyd has to go up to 154 to fight Canelo, then GG can go up and fight Ward. Broner can go up and fight Paulie. Rigo can move up a few lbs and fight Mares now. That's just for starters...

...in a few weeks. Few weeks is 2 - 3 weeks minimum. That would mean second week of June at most. If the fight is scheduled to take place on Sept 14, that would only be about three months away. If it's Canelo, they probably don't need more time than that. Just the same, you'd expect his next fight would be announced as soon as possible.
