Comments Thread For: Alexander Injury Update, Response To Amir Khan's Claim

Kevin Cunningham, trainer of IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14KOs), advised BoxingScene.com that an x-ray showed that his boxer broke his fifth metacarpal bone on Saturday night in Atlantic City. Alexander suffered the injury in the first round of his TKO win over Lee Purdy. After seven rounds of a one-sided pounding, Purdy's corner pulled him from the fight.

Alexander will wear a brace for four weeks, and then he intends to return the gym. Cunningham ensures that Alexander would be ready to fight in the fall.

Alexander-Khan in December makes a lot of sense.

I think Khan's chin could take Devon's punches.

It makes a lot of sense. What doesn't make sense, is Khan starting to campaign at 147. Would love to know what Virgil Hunter has to say about that.

I usually don't believe all the things being said about Khan's supposedly glass chin. But imagine him taking a punch from someone like manny or Marquez. And they aren't even full '47 pounders. The one thing he can hope for is that a fight vs Alexander and maybe another vs Berto/Guerrero/Ortiz could lead to Mayweather.

There are plenty of pillow-fisted fighters at 147 to keep Amir busy. So long as he doesn't chase all of the top guys, he'll be fine (until Mayweather).

For all we know a majority of his chin problems could be from killing himself to make 140. I still think anybody with reasonable power can KO him at 147 though. It can't be any worse than 140 with guys like Lucas and Danny. Might as well try his luck and see if he can get that mayweather fight.

I wish Alexander had fought Bailey the way he did the other night. Saturday's version was more exciting and he seemed charged up.

i wish he did too, but there's a reason he did not. i was there. imagine paying 200 bucks to see that fight...

randall bailey is about as limited a puncher as you're going to see, but he has freakish power. unless you've got a vendetta with your brain cells you should circle away from that guy's power.

lee purdy put his ear muffs up, and was incredibly slow compared to alexander. he also needed to be close to throw the hook and uppercut with the right hand, because his left hand was hurt.
