Golovkin is fighting Sergio as much as he's fighting Macklin in this one. Everyone regards him as a top middleweight already, for him this is about presenting himself as a guy good enough to beat Sergio Martinez and become the lineal middleweight champion of the world.

Blowing out a common opponent is a good way to do that. Against Sergio, Macklin had a 3 point lead heading into the 11th round on the scorecard of the best judge in the world, Julie Lederman.

Whether you agree with that card or not, the guy did alright. If 3G blasted him out in the early or middle rounds it'd be a hell of a statement.
