    Fernando Vargas on Lucas Matthysse

"have not seen that type of power since Tyson"

Agree? I'm sure so many fighters are intimidated by Lucas right now like Tyson use to intimidate hes opponents!

We need to be careful not to over state this now, yes it was an amazing night and freakish power but we also need to be cautious.

it is very easy to overstate a fighters' abilities or accomplishments the morning after a fight. i'm often guilty of it myself.
lucas is one of the best puchers in boxing right now. he might be the best. he can hurt you with either hand, and it doesn't have to be his sunday punch.

tyson is one of the best punchers in the history of the sport. huge difference.

even more than the heaviness of his shots, it's the accuracy and timing that impresses me with matthysse. he knows exactly how his opponents are going to react before he throws.

he picks a spot ahead of time, IE before his opponent's head has moved there, or glove has left his face. that's not just a brute with heavy hands.

i still think maidana could hit a speed bag harder, or a mitt. his problem is that he's just a brute with heavy hands. matthysse is intelligent and has heavy hands. huge difference.

you want to watch out for the smart guy who can punch.

Paulie also said his power reminds him of Julian Jackson with a solid chin.

                which is overreacting.

anybody remember randall bailey at 140?
randall bailey was a harder puncher at 140 than lucas matthysse.

bailey's problem is that he sucks a bit, and he's a bit soft. matthysse is a beast with a skilled offense, and he fights that way.

Bailey is p4p one of the single hardest punchers I've ever seen. BUT..Lucas is doin this to quality opponents so it's hard to say. Tyson is a fair comparison. I mean this is going on at 140 and he's not fighting small 140 pounders. I mean obviously there's been guys like Tito who have unreal left hooks, etc but Matthysse is doing this through guards, not fully flush shots, etc. it's impressive and it's Mike Tyson-esque...I mean he's not as fast or anything lol but the guy deserves the respect hes getting imo.
