  • Comments Thread For: Froch Furious With Groves, Cleverly Over Kessler Help

CARL FROCH has branded fellow Brits Nathan Cleverly and George Groves traitors for helping Mikkel Kessler prepare for next Saturday’s fight.

The Cobra was stung by news that Groves and Cleverly have been sparring with Dane Kessler, ahead of the world super-middleweight title unification clash at London’s O2 Arena.

Froch reckons WBO light-heavyweight champion Cleverly and Commonwealth super-middleweight title-holder Groves lack loyalty and class by getting Kessler ready for the biggest fight in the UK this year. [Click Here To Read More]

I don't think UK fighters should feel any loyalty to each other. It's an individual sport at the end of the day and you have to do what's best for your own career.

That being said, if Groves' trainer is a friend of Froch's, and they share the same promoter, it's surprising that he's helping Kessler prepare for the fight. Would've expected Hearn to nix that idea as soon as he heard about it.

Would be good to see Froch-Groves soon, you can tell there's a bit of needle there and it'd be a good fight while it lasted.

Cleverley is supposed to be a world champion, bit sad that he's basically a sparring partner for someone. Then again maybe he took it as a learning experience as it'd be the first time he ever shared a ring with a world-class opponent.

Not surprised by Froch comments but I can't say I agree totally with them.

Those guys have to do what's best for their career and development but if it's done more out of spite (of not getting a Froch fight) then it's a bit disrespectful and frankly childish.

That said, Froch beats the brakes off either of these two kids.

What's he crying about? Both fighters have a living to earn so sparring is a great way to earn a few quid between fights plus both gain some world class experience it's a win win froch is getting the excuses in early just incase

Cleverley is no World 'champion' he's a titlist until he fights someone half decent. Hopkins isn't the only world class fighter at the weight yet he seems to be the only guy at world level Cleverley is willing to fight!

Clearly this has upset Froch and worries him about the top prep Kessler is getting.

If is bothered by it he shouldn't show it, how ******. Of course, every fighter is in the game for themselves, its not a team sport like the Amateurs.

If Groves and Cleverly get offered top sparring to bring them on then of course they will take it.

Also, if I was Carl Froch I wouldn't be mentioning anything about Cleverly's opponents when he has flat out come out and said he doesn't want to share a ring with Cleverly.

Based on that - I might have to put a cheeky tenner on Groves to get knocked out soon.

Froch is quite honest. If George is getting knocked out in sparring - then he is.

                I'm with Froch on this.

Fighters don't need to have loyalty to other fighters, but British guys who are all at least friends of friends shouldn't be helping opponents. Whatever the case may be, I'd be delighted to see Froch maul both of them after this fight.

                  ----------------------------------------------------------------

He's offered Froch and Kessler to opportunity to challenge for his title.

I think the thing over Cleverly's opponents is a little ott.

The American TV (not sure which network) turned down Cleverly Shumenov in America, they said he needed to build his profile (hence the Shawn Hawk fight in LA). Shumenov flat out refused to come to the UK to do it instead.

Kusemski (Breahmer pulled out last minute not Clev's fault)
                  Bellew a domestic rivalry
                  Karpancy - bad opponent
Hawk - to gain American exposure
                  Krasniqi - no:1 contender mandatory

First and last fight's he had no choice in the matter.

I can forgive the Bellew fight as a domestic rivalry - Bellew had been calling Cleverly out for years and with the heated press conference and everything...

Hawk too to gain exposure in the American market.

Karpency is a stinker of an opponent - no two ways.

Also, lets not forget Murat who he beat before becoming World Champ. Murat has a win and draw over Campillo who gave Cloud all he could handle.

Another decent opponent that gets overlooked.

I agree Cleverly needs a big fight and to step up in opponents now - there isn't any more room for B B+ level guys.

Froch needs to learn it's not country vs country, boxing is a business and Kessler has asked them to spar with him because he feels they would help him!

Boxing is NOT a team event in the ring buddy, so learn to deal with it and let's just get this fight happening!!!
