Comments Thread For: Guillermo Jones Shocks Denis Lebedev in War of Wills

Crocus City Hall, Moscow, Russia - "champion in recess" Guillermo Jones (39-3-2, 31KOs) shocked WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (25-2, 19KOs) with an eleventh round stoppage of a fantastic fight.

Jones came out very strong in the first round, landing hard right hands and cut Lebedev above the right eye. The two boxers were swinging hard and letting their hands go in the second. they continued to trade in the third, with both finding success. Jones showed his chin in the fourth, after taking several hard shots and continued to press forward looking for big shots of his own. Lebdev's right eye was swelling hard and closing.

I said it before Felino got the skills people were talking about his weight and what not but skills pay the bills. This guy got crisp uppercuts and a nice jab plus when he switched stances Lebedev didnt know what to do. His face was mangled gotta love them cletos, I was never really sold on Lebedev, but I dont think he will ever be the same again.

Jones employed the 'Homer Defense' of letting Denis hit him until Denis got tired.

The chin of Jones was just OMG!! wow this was an upset of upsets ...... Props to Lebedev for fighting with that eye but his corner should have stopped it themselves way earlier.

I'm glad for Jones. Consider old for Boxing standards he beats a guy who had clobbered faded Roy Jones and James Toney but still came in as the big odds favorite and Guilermo stopped him. Impressive.

Russian manages/promoters/trainers don't care if their fighter lives or dies.

Bunch of corrupt stone age gangsters.

Lol, I knew Guillermo Jones would pull it off. Lazy P.O.S. fights once or twice every 3 years and still is one of the best, if not the best, cruiserweight in the world. Hats off to Lebedev though, he was just beaten by the better man tonight.

not sure what Felino has. First tiem watched him tonight. He cut Lebedev in 1st round and kept hitting from all angles in order to win this fight. PLus it's in Russia - so he had to try. Also he's got solid chin..

on other hand we have Lebedev which has amateur defense. He wasnt special fighter from the beginning. but judges or doctor should of stopped teh fight after 6th round. The thought Denis could do something..not when you barely class B fighter.

Disagree, using the Homer Defense is not impressive to me.
