Then Canelo does not have to take the fight he asked for. He can simply walk away and make another fight.

      • I guess Mayweather can get people talking. All this is about is attention and to keep Floyds name afloat as he did so anytime Pacquiao was fighting his payed groupies floodyed the fourm with Floyd news to get a reaction. This is all hype to hype a Canelo vs. Floyd fight.

After the Guerrero fight theres no way Floyd should be fighting at welterweight he looked huge. Don't bs me about his weigh in weight. Guererro pushed Floyd good and he took the shots and pressure really well which surprised me. Whatever Floyd is taking, its making him a better fighter. Floyd should be fighting at 154 and this argument with Canelo is just another hype machine. I used to think Canelo could take Floyd from what i have seen lately with Floyd looking like he did against Guererro and Canelo not showing all his tools against Trout, I don't think Canelo is ready for Floyd just yet. But looks like the fight is going to happen.

If he's at his best at 154 and he's strong and he's solid, then that's the fight we're fighting at. I walk around at 150, but at the end of the day - skills pay the bills.

De La Hoya - Pacquiao fights him at a catch-weight. Cotto - he fights him at a catchweight. When I fought De La Hoya, I said 'give him to me at 154.' With Cotto - 'give him to me at 154.' Give me the guys where they are comfortable at their weight so there are no excuses."

This quote says it all. All I hear now from team Mayweather is quack, quack.....
Perfect post that shows the entire hypocisy in glaring detail!

Why do u need a catch weight AND a rehydration clause? All u need is a rehydration clause. Weight draining is dangerous

To be honest, I believe this is what will happen..... EVENTUALLY. I mean, if ya'll think about it - what sense would it make for Floyd to fight Canelo NOW? Floyd has 5 fights left on his Showtime contract, and insists he's DONE after that. Why would Floyd make his second or third fight on that contract be the biggest fight he has out of the options he has. Look at it like this - Say he fights Canelo as his 3rd fight (of 6)... then what does he follow it up with as his last few fights, Devon Alexander?!?! Andre Berto?!? A rematch with Ortiz (not likely anyway)?!? No way. You don't make your last few fights fighting the likes of Devon or Berto or some ****. If your Floyd Mayweather Jr, you make your last few fights the biggest possible fights out there and minimize losing risk because it's the grand finale. He should fight the Devons and Bertos now - sit back and let Canelo/Cotto fight (and considers the winner) and Pacquiao vs whoever (and considers the winner).

I think the 147lb demand is more than likely a tactic for time. They let the other fights play out and then in the end, they negotiate out a 154lb fight with a rehydration clause. Again, it just doesn't make sense to fight Canelo (or Pac for that matter) until the end of his 6 fight contract. You don't fight your big fights at the beginning of the countdown and then take the perceivable easier fights AFTERWARDS... you wait until the end and make it the coup de grace. If you're Floyd Mayweather Jr (where $$$$ is the ultimate goal) if you make your last contracted fight (EVER) a high profit/high value fight, it still leaves room for possible air of a 7th fight vs whoever the highest demand/highest money thriller the fans mouth waterinly demand. They insist he's "retired for good", until a media/fan wishlist is so high that he gets back into that era that was created back in 09/10, where the profiteers insist that he can make 100-150 million dollars guaranteed (not including PPV $).

Floyd says he's gonna finish up his 6 fights and then move on to other things in boxing, namely his Promotional Company, and will probably dabble in training (but IMO he wont find the glory in it he thinks he will because he knows the only thing he can control in this business is HIMSELF). The lure of BIG, easy money will bring him out if there's a huge clamour for it). But, you don't get all that if you end your fighting career fighting the likes of Devon Alexander or Andre ****ing Berto.

I don't think Floyd's going to be happy about that.
I would expect that once the criticism starts flowing towards Jr. that he will come out with a statement saying that 'He's his own man' and his father doesn't speak for him. I doubt he even elaborates any further then that, which would be smart on his part.

I've been saying this for a long time but Jr. needs to put a gag order on his pops.... make it some kind of stipulation for him being head trainer or something. It seems like the more poppa Mayweather publicly speaks for Jr., the more the problems between the two begin to smolder. I doubt seriously (although doubtlfull Jr. will say this publicly) that FMJ is gonna just sit back and allow his father to tell the media/fans that 'he's the boss' and is in charge of him for anything other then being the paid trainer in his corner on fight night.

He should walk away because 147 is not where he fights and he could not even make 151 for the Hatton fight. Floyd knew this.

Is this thread about fighting Canelo at 147 or 154or defending a belt? Why bring up a belt which has no meaning in this conversation, if you want to talk about belts then we need to see if Caneli has faced the mandatory if not then he should vacate right? So should all fighters in all weight classes.

                    • i respect Floyd greatly for his skills but the man simply does have not the heart of the great fighters before him. which is ok but don't go around saying you're the greatest ever. you don't deserve it.
